Join us today from 12-1pm ET, as our CEO Carrie Shaw joins PsychU to discuss The Agitation In Alzheimer’s Screener For Caregivers (AASC™). Alongside Marc E. Agronin, MD, we'll discuss how caregivers can use this new screener to recognize the breadth of agitation symptoms and facilitate conversations with healthcare professionals. During this session, presenters will provide a didactic overview and engage in role-playing scenarios to illustrate how community caregivers can use the AASCTM to facilitate a conversation with their health care provider (HCP). PhD seeking role in behavioral science/technology and science communication | Passionate about physical activity behavior and programming | Background in weight stigma and obesity research
#WeightStigma is harmful in so many ways for young people, yet they experience it from all facets of their life: friends, family, teachers, and even healthcare providers. As providers and advocates, let's continue working towards creating spaces where our young people can feel comfortable in a #stigmafree environment while receiving care for obesity and other needs. How can we do that? ✔ increase awareness for personal biases ✔ provide more experiential learning opportunities for providers ✔ offer additional trainings to improve patient communication ... and more Check out the full article below from myself and colleague, Stephen Cook, MD, MPH!

Caring for caregivers is an imperative- for improved outcomes and compassionate oncology treatment. Learn more about developing caregiver clinical services in our upcoming webinar series.
Frequently in healthcare we find a chasm between the "right thing to do" and "the sustainable/reimbursable" thing to do. When they're at odds, good ideas don't move forward. While we all recognize the invaluable role that family caregivers play in persons with cancer in achieving the best outcomes, and as the eyes/ears of the clinical team for the 99% of the time the person with cancer is not in an exam room, structured interventions to support those folks are few. A new and innovative model to "do the right thing in a sustainable way" in supporting caregivers emotional and mental health needs has been pioneered by some colleagues, who have worked with us to create a "Toolkit for Developing Clinical Services for Caregivers". My colleagues Rachel Cannady & Dr. Laura Makaroff partnered with leading clinical experts Allison J. Applebaum, Ph.D. & J. Nicholas Odom to create a comprehensive set of tools and resources that oncology leaders, clinicians, and staff members can use to implement psychosocial services for family caregivers within their healthcare system. It also addresses key areas of clinic development, including referral sources and triage processes, billing codes, and staffing. The first of its kind, we are proud to launch a 3-part webinar series to introduce the Toolkit and discuss practical ways to start from scratch towards a goal of more structured support for caregivers within oncology delivery organizations. Please download the flyer to click on a date and register for the webinar.

Proud to share our latest publication 'Effectiveness of mHealth Interventions to Improve Pain Intensity and Functional Disability in Individuals With Hip or Knee Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis' in Archive of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (https://lnkd.in/gSH98iiy) Our study highlights the significant potential of mHealth to improve pain and functional disability, particularly when combined with patient education, for patients with hip and knee osteoarthritis. Digital health is a game-changer for rehabilitation services, especially in remote areas where access to healthcare professionals is limited. Our research underscores the value of mHealth in providing essential rehabilitation and education to patients despite the global shortage of healthcare providers. This innovative approach can bridge the gap, ensuring patients receive the support they need to manage their conditions effectively. A huge shoutout to Jean MAPINDUZI and the team for their work Gérard NDACAYISABA Jonas Verbrugghe Annick Timmermans Oyéné Richard Kossi ! Now, I am looking forward to collecting data on the field and seeing the real-world impact of these interventions with OpenTeleRehab and Martin Jacobs Let's continue to innovate and improve patient care with technology and further integrating patients' education in digital solutions! 🚀 #HealthcareInnovation #mHealth #Osteoarthritis #Rehabilitation #PatientCare #RemoteHealthcare #TeamWork

Seeing the Same GP: A Win-Win for Patients and Doctors Seeing the same GP improves patient health and reduces the workload for family doctors, according to one of the largest studies of its kind. Researchers at the University of Cambridge and INSEAD business school found there was a range of benefits when patients have a long-term relationship with their doctor. Seeing the same doctor during GP visits – a model known as continuity of care – meant people waited on average 18% longer between visits, compared with patients who saw different doctors. People did not take up more GP time in each consultation and the findings were particularly strong for older patients, those with multiple chronic illnesses, and people with mental health conditions. https://lnkd.in/ebdhQ3mj https://lnkd.in/eupRfBeg #generalpractice #continuity #care #complexcare #familymedicine #physicians #NHS #uk

Tomorrow, October 9th, 2024, Dr. William Mansbach, will partner with LeadingAge PA to present, 'Reducing Late-Day Confusion in People with Dementia: An Innovative and Practical Approach'. This webinar is free to LeadingAge PA members. Non-member rate is $80. Behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) are very common in residents with dementia. Perhaps the most challenging types are those that occur as part of the sundowning (late-day confusion) syndrome. Currently, there are very few intervention models that demonstrate success in reducing symptom frequency and severity. Too often, the primary (and often only) intervention is medication-based. While medications are often necessary, they are generally not sufficient. This presentation will discuss the interprofessional model and present evidence of its effectiveness using a clinical case. Healthcare staff, clinicians, and leaders working with residents with dementia should find this presentation to be highly innovative and practical. Register here: https://lnkd.in/eVPcY6nF
