The biggest challenge for #charities tracking donations in #GA4 or any other analytics platform is to track the life time value of a recurring donation. Typically, these are tracked at face value of the transaction which is often quite low. What we cannot measure in that transaction is how many months or years the user continues to send their £20 every month because at that point even they don't know. One way we tackle this is by assigning a conversion value to monthly donations, using an average value and duration of 18 months. This may vary from one charity to another and may not be an easy number to get hold of but it is worth it. Because once that is in place, you can optimise your campaigns for the donations with the highest life time value, not the biggest face value. I'd be interested to hear how others have tacked this #measurement challenge.

Interim Director of Development + Short-term Fractional Fundraising Leader ✨ I help organizations strengthen their fundraising foundation, especially during a leadership transition.
You just got an online donation for $1,000. (WOHOO!) What happens next? You send: ➡ An email receipt ➡ Printed letter two weeks later (possibly with a hand-written note) ➡ E-newsletter ➡ Invitation to a spring fundraiser ➡ Solicitation to give to a special project or giving day (multiple times) ➡ Printed annual report ➡ Invitation to the annual gala… Sound familiar? It’s a one way street. I see teams stuck doing the same things year after year after year. And donor numbers are dropping. 💡 It’s possible to cultivate relationships with donors in a way that doesn’t drive staff into the ground. Ready to switch things up? Here are a few of my favorites: ⭐ A thank you phone call ⭐ Group donor tour or open house ⭐ "Roundtable" with the Executive Director (in person/Zoom) ⭐ Thank you event What have you tried that works?
