Reluctant to Speak Up Esther blinked through frustrated tears, clenching her purse straps tight as the lab scinetist asked her a simple question ↳ “Any changes in your health lately?” She longed to describe the unbearable pinching cramps and dysfunctional cycles that prompted these tests. But swells of anxiety always clamped her throat shut when asked to voice embarassing feminine symptoms - even to caring medical staff just aiming to heal her. ↳ The scientist gave her a note pad to write down how she felt that morning. She took a deep breath, then passed the scientist her written notes. Finally, her voice could be heard. We all have health issues we prefer keeping private, even from professionals aiming to heal us. Yet our inner experiences guide better care As healthcare professionals we would have loved our patients speak up - it’s not always so ↳ I attempted this and it worked 👇🏻 At times, I request patients write personal symptoms ahead of appointments or during and decide which details to discuss or show staff. This simple new process helps patients prioritize need-to-know insights for better care while revealing information without being 🙈 Lab testing starts with understanding your reality. I know we all get shy at a point But I don’t want that to affect the healthcare we want to give you - I need you to be healthy If you can’t say it. Write it down and show it to the healthcare provider 😊 PS: What do you think about this method ? ♻️ Share this, someone in your connection needs it! ↳ I am Emele Arthur-Hayford , I help you take command of your health. Effective communication is key to better handling of lab tests and healthcare in general. Giving her the notepad to write down her issues was a great step and I think we as healthcare professionals should learn to use different means of communications to help our clients give us the accurate information we need to help them. She being reluctant to speak could be due to trust issues, she's wondering who else is listening and will talk about it?. And so we should always always always reassure our clients of confidentiality.

Beautiful. You’ve helped the patients That’s thoughtful of you

I think good patient outcomes are also determined by your relationship with your patients. By being empathetic and accommodating, you up your patient's whole experience by like... 50 percent! Definitely a powerful and efficient approach.
