We're thrilled to celebrate Sebastian S., a recent graduate of East Early College High School who will be heading to Lehigh University in hopes of pursuing a career in the medical field. It’s special to witness the beauty of unity among people. The recent energy that student athletes and fans brought to Purdue University’s historic #MarchMadness run. Purdue’s collaborative event with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Indianapolis Motor Speedway to host an education-filled viewing party for the #TotalSolarEclipse. The establishment of the Tyler Trent Pediatric Cancer Research Center within the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research. We can take giant leaps when we do this together. As we look toward #PurdueDayOfGiving on April 24, I wanted to highlight 3 special initiatives taking place on campus right now: 1.) Purdue has one of the highest campus housing utilization rates in the #BigTen. To accommodate this high volume, Purdue is constructing a brand-new residence hall that is specifically designed for students who are a part of the Data Mine. This will be an 8-story facility with 896 beds. The Data Mine is an interdisciplinary living-learning community open to students from all across campus. 2.) For the first time since 1961, Purdue’s most historic building – University Hall – will be undergoing a much-needed renovation. The new concept for the renovation will reflect the initial floorplan from University Hall’s opening in 1871, which is more of an open concept to foster collaboration among students. This building was funded as part of John Purdue’s founding donation and is where he spent the final day before his passing. 3.) Purdue is establishing a collaborative building between the Purdue University College of Pharmacy and the Purdue School of Nursing. There has been a tremendously increasing need for nurses and pharmacists in #Indiana, while investing in interdisciplinary skill-building among pharmacists and nurses in terms of both patient care and research. 🌟 Reflecting on History: Continuing the Legacy of GRAUC 🌟 As we journey through the annals of GRAUC's impactful history, we unveil yet another chapter of commitment and collaboration, spanning the years 2003-2006. ✨ 2003-2004: Embracing Accountability & Vision Alignment During this period, GRAUC fortified its commitment to accountability, aligning our vision with the esteemed University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR) in areas of mutual benefit. We expanded stakeholder discussions, fostering dialogue to explore future growth opportunities. Our efforts aimed to accelerate the expansion of UMR, championing initiatives vital for community and state economic vitality, while advocating for UCR campus co-development. ✨ 2004-2005: Exploring Growth Opportunities & Advocacy Triumphs Delving deeper into growth prospects, GRAUC meticulously examined UMR's expansion opportunities, appointing a specialized task force to scrutinize recommendations. Strengthening our coalition of support, we successfully advocated for crucial funding, securing $3.2 million for the Governor's Rochester Higher Education Development initiative and $12.97 million for UCR Health Sciences renovation. Additionally, we delved into the business plan for a proposed domed stadium, envisioning future possibilities. ✨ 2005-2006: Paving the Way for Transformational Change A testament to our unwavering dedication, GRAUC provided pivotal leadership in the successful passage of the sales tax referendum, allocating an additional $8 million for higher education capital projects. Governor Pawlenty's appointment of the Rochester Higher Education Development Committee (RHEDC) underscored the significance of our collective efforts. With the RHEDC's report on 'Advancing Minnesota', GRAUC's Chair appointed a special Higher Ed Task Force (HEFT), entrusted with spearheading the implementation of RHEDC recommendations. Moreover, our "World of Thanks" event in March celebrated 20 years of GRAUC's exemplary leadership, acknowledging the collective impact achieved through unwavering dedication and collaborative spirit. As we stride forward, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing higher education, fostering innovation, and shaping a brighter future for generations to come. Kids used to make fun of Cindy Crawford because of the mole on her face. Graduating valedictorian of DeKalb High School 40 years ago, she earned a full-ride scholarship to Northwesterm University to study chemical engineering. Everything was clicking - but she was embarrassed about her birthmark. She told her mom she wanted to have it removed. "My mother always said, 'You know what your mole looks like, you don’t know what the scar is going to look like.'" Thankfully, she listened to her mom. The beauty mark became her distinctive, and she was soon appearing on magazine covers all over the world. "Sometimes the thing that makes you feel most self-conscious turns out to be your greatest asset," she once reflected. Our seeming burdens are often blessings.
