🌍✨ Today marks Human Rights Day, a crucial moment to reflect on the fundamental rights that shape our world. As we commemorate this day, it's vital to recognise that mental health should be considered a human right for all. Mental health is the cornerstone of every individual's wellbeing and is intricately linked to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). When we prioritize mental health, we foster environments where people can thrive, contribute meaningfully, and pursue their aspirations. On this #HumanRightsDay 2023, let's advocate the fundamental right to mental health and wellbeing for all. Moving beyond just meeting needs, it's time to empower individuals—children, youth, and caregivers—to claim their rights within a robust national public service system. #humanrights75 #sdgs2030 #sustainabledevelopment #wellbeing #mentalhealthmatters #humanrights Marie Dahl Jasinska

June is National Men’s Health Month, and LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. Men are less likely than women to seek help for stressful life events, such as substance abuse, and depression. This is due to social norms about masculinity, downplaying symptoms, and disconnection and isolation. "Depression is prevalent among gay men, wherein gay men are three times more likely to experience depression compared with the general adult population (Cox, 2006; King et al., 2008). There are many mental health resources that are available for men, including support groups, websites with helpful tools, and therapists who focus on men’s concerns. Website with wonderful resources. https://lnkd.in/eH2ks-Dk https://lnkd.in/eEyv9787 https://lnkd.in/eJAQ-SYq

Mere childrearing reliably cured the terrible twos, the biggest hurdle parents encounter. Post-1960s "parenting" does NOT cure the terrible twos. And not curing the terrible twos enriches the charlatans who occupy America's mental health professions. A few weeks ago, we highlighted why supporting teen minority mental health matters. Now, let's talk about ways we as a community can contribute: ✨ Listen and Validate: Every teen's story is unique. Offer a listening ear and validate their experiences. ✨ Educate Yourself and Others: Learn about the mental health challenges minority teens face and share that knowledge with your community. ✨ Support Access to Resources: Advocate for better access to mental health services and support programs in minority communities. ✨ Promote Inclusivity: Foster an environment where every teen feels seen, heard, and valued, regardless of their background. What are some other ways that the community can contribute to teen minority mental health awareness and support? Proficient Behaviour Support Practitioner @ Life Without Barriers | Mental Health, Trauma-Informed Care
The experience of living in out-of-home care can leave profound scars on the mental health of children and young people. Removed from families and familiar environments, they grapple with loss, trauma, and the constant uncertainty of their situation. Frequent placement changes and disrupted attachments make it difficult to build a sense of stability and security, contributing to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Educational challenges, often stemming from their experiences, further erode confidence. Social isolation and stigma add another layer of hardship, as they navigate life trajectories different from their peers and grapple with negative perceptions associated with being in care. Access to crucial mental health support, unfortunately, remains a significant hurdle due to overburdened systems and limited resources. Recognizing these unique challenges is crucial. Only through a collaborative effort involving child protection agencies, mental health professionals, educators, and the community can we create a supportive and nurturing environment that helps these resilient individuals heal, build self-worth, and overcome the long-term impact of their challenging beginnings. Let's amplify awareness, foster understanding, and work together to provide the support these incredible young minds need to flourish despite their adversities. Together, we can make a lasting impact on their lives and empower them to build brighter futures. 💙 #OutofHomeCare #MentalHealthMatters #CommunitySupport #advocacy #socialjustice #socialwork
