Soon we all talk to AI Agents to achieve any task. But how far away are we actually from this futuristic world? It is good that we have some scientists like Xing Han Lu 🦙 creating benchmarks for agentic models to make this zoo of agents a bit more transparent. Even though agents are often advertised as magic solutions, they struggle with complex tasks. Enjoy his presentation. Since this is such a wide topic, let me know in the comments if you have any questions. 👇 Paper: "WebLINX: Real-World Website Navigation with Multi-Turn Dialogue " (https://lnkd.in/eme6jK9g) Authors: Xing Han Lu 🦙, Zdeněk Kasner, Siva Reddy From: Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, McGill University, Charles University [ICML] Int'l Conference on Machine Learning #icml2024

I had the privilege of attending the Government and Public Sector Forum on Artificial Intelligence hosted by the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology. It was an educational day with important discussions and lectures on subjects such as: • Prof. Gal Chechik's overview of artificial intelligence and what the near future holds for AI technology. • Ben Haklai’s evaluation of generative AI technologies, along with reviews of AI tools that are already widely used or are expected to become part of our everyday lives. • Dr. Omri Rachum-Twaig’s review of the European AI Act – covering its scope, structure, core principles, and the challenges it presents. After these interesting presentations, as well as several other insightful talks, we transitioned into roundtable discussions with members from the public sector to address the responsible use of AI. It was great to reconnect with colleagues from across the public sector and discuss important issues regarding Israel’s technological and regulatory future. The collaborations sparked by this forum will help ensure that Israel remains at the forefront of technological progress, as it is today. A special thanks to my university friend Josef Gedalyahu for organizing the conference and inviting me to take part. #AI #MachineLearning #GenerativeAI #AIRegulation #Innovation #PublicPolicy #EuropeanAIAct #ArtificialIntelligence #ResponsibleAI #IsraelTech

Marlene Mhangami gave a keynote over remote video here at #pyconafrica2024. Her presentation of some (quoted) grand claims about AI reminded me of the term's origin > On September 2, 1955, the project was formally proposed by [John] McCarthy, Marvin Minsky, Nathaniel Rochester and Claude Shannon. The proposal is credited with introducing the term 'artificial intelligence'. > We propose that a 2-month, 10-man study of artificial intelligence be carried out during the summer of 1956 [...] The study is to proceed on the basis of the conjecture that every aspect of learning or any other feature of intelligence can in principle be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it. [...] We think that a significant advance can be made in one or more of these problems if a carefully selected group of scientists work on it together for a summer. Marlene Mhangami #pyconafrica24

Natalie Meyers is a Professor of the Practice at the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society. Recently, Meyers was also appointed as the first AI Researcher in Residence at the Association of Research Libraries. Her work focuses on findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) best practices for data & model sharing for computationally intensive research. Additionally, Meyers works to identify the strategic implications of #AI use in research libraries. The R.I.S.E. (Responsible, Inclusive, Safe, and Ethical) AI Conference will convene at the University of Notre Dame on October 6-9,2025. This transformative event will bring together global leaders from academia, industry, government, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), united in shaping the future of AI to advance the common good. More information about the R.I.S.E. GenAI is rapidly becoming a game-changer in the creative process, enhancing our ability to efficiently search, summarise and refine work. Agentic systems are pushing the boundaries even further, transforming the traditional back-and-forth of chat into a dynamic web of intelligent agents that perform complex tasks with humans remaining firmly in control. Just a few days ago, Sakana unveiled a significant development: The AI Scientist https://lnkd.in/gWdJagty — the first system capable of fully autonomous scientific discovery. This innovative platform can independently navigate the entire research lifecycle — from generating novel ideas and writing code to executing experiments, summarising results and presenting its findings in a polished scientific paper. The system can produce a full research paper at a cost of only $15. What does this mean for the future of research? Are we on the brink of a surge in published papers? And while automating the research lifecycle sounds promising, could it potentially undermine the creative spark that drives true innovation?
