European ministries of health must work together and ‘commit to the development of more resilient and caring health systems in which heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases are top priorities’. Highlighting the growing burden of heart failure in Spain, Mónica García Gómez called for unified action from European governments during her keynote address for the Heart Failure Policy Summit 2024, which took place last week. Minister García Gómez outlined some of the aims of the Spanish cardiovascular health strategy, which is the first national CVD strategy to be implemented in the European Union following the COVID-19 pandemic. The strategy looks to tackle underlying causes of CVD, such as socioeconomic inequality. The Minister of Health also talked about how Spain is working to make its health system resilient to mounting pressures such as ageing populations and climate change. Concluding her address, Minister García Gómez expressed her support for the work of the HFPN and the European Heart Failure Mission, and promised that – together – European governments can forge a path to ensure healthier populations live in healthier societies. On August 14, the World Health Organization declared mpox a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). We have updated our #TravelHealthNotice (THN) for #mpox to include additional countries in Africa and information on the PHEIC. If you have patients planning to travel to the African region, invite them to read the THN for information on how they can reduce their risk, mpox symptoms, and what to do if they feel sick when they return to Canada. The THN also includes information and resources for health care providers. https://ow.ly/y4mc50T1sCG
