Tech in Furniture The future of every business will rely more and more on technology. This will also be true in furniture. There is already groundbreaking software out there that can help provide additional resources to your clients that will help you keep their business. All dealers and manufacturers should start looking at hiring a CTO or a technology manager to help bring these technologies into your business. If you need help finding this talent, let me know.

The Most Curious Person in Multifamily I Being Curious about Investing and Operations. Posts are about my curious journey.
Great Property Managers Were Assistant Managers First Why it's important Without assistant property managers how will companies hire property managers? Like it or not there is an organic career trajectory in multifamily management. It starts with a leasing position, then you get promoted to assistant property manager, then property manager and then regional property manager. Many of the top executives in the industry followed this path. The same goes for regionals and property managers. There are multifamily management companies that are removing the APM position. That will disrupt the organic career trajectory. I can't picture hiring a property manager that wasn't an APM beforehand. What are your thoughts?

Scaling Operations for High-Growth Brands like Passenger, Jaded LDN, and Wild using tailored Airtable Solutions
CEOs and Founders obsess about the playbooks for scaling a brand. All over X liking 🧵threads. At the same time, their team is hiring for roles like everyone needs a PA. £24,000 buys you ALOT of automation. I'm not saying there isn't a need for junior roles in design, development, buying, production and merchandising, but let's be honest about how much of their time is spent on very low-value tasks. What is the real quality of the data and reports that admins can pull? How well-prepped are meetings compared to the cost of running them? The CEOs and Founders who are writing the playbook are hiring like Everything needs a system Tech is a function of Operations Revenue per head needs to keep going up Small, agile teams > big, slow-moving teams The worst offenders are old-school retail and luxury fashion brands. The complexity of raw materials and the bill of materials drives a ridiculous escalation in administration. The ones you read about restructuring and get press releases about their innovations are hiring admin assistants like crazy because, as all operators know, nothing properly integrates and flows. People fill the gaps. We call these gaps jobs. Admin Assistant jobs. The worst part is the lack of speed. Slow processes kill your ability to react. Slow decision-making. Slow meetings. Slow commute. Whether your brand is hot or not, these operational costs can't be carried out forever. I've not even got into the meeting-for-meetings-sake culture that exists to support the need for admin and reports. #operations #techstacks

10 months ago I made a big, uncomfortable bet that ended up being one of the best hiring decisions I’ve made at NoBoringDesign, here’s the story: Let’s go back 10 months ago. Believe it or not, at that time, we didn’t have any form of project management, in fact, our designers were responsible for keeping track of their projects and balancing their own workloads!! Crazy talk. I knew we needed Project Management, but I didn’t realize the full potential of what Project Management could offer both our customers and our team. Ok Eli, get to the goods, what was the uncomfortable bit? In the moment, I was torn between hiring someone who would be more of a junior IC, or someone who would be a more senior PM leader. On one hand, it felt silly to hire a leader when there wasn’t a PM team to lead, and I knew it would be a while before that would change. On the other hand, I felt that having a greater depth and breadth of experience and leadership at the helm of the PM org would serve us well long term. But I had two problems: first, I needed to find a player-coach. Someone who was willing and interested in rolling up their sleeves in the beginning, but could also direct strategy and process for the PM org. Second, I needed to decide if I could make the financial bet that would be required to hire the more senior candidate. At the time it felt like I was “betting the farm” on this hire. We were just barely above break even, and this hire would take us to neutral - a very dangerous place to be. Ultimately, I decided the bet was worth it, and that I’d be comfortable covering the costs personally if the company went into the negative as a result of the bet. Thankfully I never had to cover any costs, and the hire led to many more unlocks than I could have ever imagined. Today, beyond keeping the trains on the tracks with our clients and team members, our PMs contribute meaningfully to our revenue, leading the charge on our expansion motion within accounts. Additionally, this hire became a rock within the leadership team and someone who has helped us push through the growing pains any early stage company faces. So to wrap, take chances on people and yourself. Bets that may feel uncomfortable at the time can sometimes lead to tremendous growth and opportunity. What’s a bet you took that felt risky at the time but ended up paying off? #entrepreneurship #smallbusiness

CEO @ LiveRecover | 1x exited-founder (DSTLD) | ex-Mgmt Consultant @Deloitte | MBA in Strategy. Focus: Startups | Paid Media | AI | Technical Architecture | Design | Product
Your 1st hire could be a game-changer. It's not about stacking your deck with high-profile 'experts' from the get-go. More often than not, an Executive Assistant is the way to go. Your focus should be the lifeblood of your business. The essence of your role is to drive your vision forward.Strategy. Innovation. Growth. These necessitate your unbroken attention. Surrounding yourself with people who can take on the operational load allows you to maintain that focus. Your EA should morph into your right hand—someone capable of shouldering an array of tasks that, while necessary, distract you from steering the ship. My first key hire at my DTC brand was an EA: bright, eager, and just out of fashion school with top grades and a background at a leading fast fashion brand. They were a linchpin as the company burgeoned from a one-person show to over 30 employees. That EA didn't just manage schedules; they rolled up their sleeves and dug in. From shipping out initial orders to laying the groundwork for a full-blown warehouse operation, their adaptability was unmatched. When we transitioned from our own warehouse to a third-party logistics provider (3PL), the same EA was instrumental in orchestrating the migration. Their role continuously expanded to a full operation exec, ultimately outlasting my own tenure and remaining through the company's leap into an IPO. The moral? Never underestimate the potential of the motivated and under-appreciated; those yearning for a stage devoid of politics, where meritocracy reigns. Your EA could become the cornerstone of your operation, given the right conditions and your trust to grow. Seek the overlooked gems. Foster their trajectory within an environment that champions their development. You're not just hiring an EA. You're architecting your ability to focus on strategic aspects of your business and maximize success.
