Powering Planes with Microwaves is Not the Craziest Idea In 2050, a new type of airliner powered by beamed electromagnetic energy rather than onboard fuel could transform air travel. Planes would receive power from ground-based antennas via microwave radiation, allowing for continuous flight without traditional fuel. We intend to sufficiently scale production of GO-2 to match this growing demand. By offering a more affordable and readily available propulsion system able to facilitate all necessary maneuvers from initial orbit to de-orbit, the GO-2 marks an important leap for the industry.” Unlike traditional propulsion systems, the GO-2 uses a metal alloy propellant to provide efficient and reliable satellite movement. Septentrio launches new smart antenna for machine automation Septentrio has announced the launch of a new smart antenna, the AntaRx smart antenna, which it says is ideal for machine automation and control in construction, precision agriculture and logistics. The antenna is said to be enclosed in a rugged housing, meaning it can handle high levels of shocks and vibrations and is ready for operation in harsh industrial environments. Built on Septentrio’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) experience, this multi-frequency receiver delivers RTK positioning down to the centimeter level. Equipment manufacturers and system integrators can benefit from the versatile offering including INS (Inertial Navigation System) integration, dual antenna mode, and 4G cellular communication. “AntaRx combines the renowned positioning quality of Septentrio with a high-quality antenna, in a rugged and compact housing for simplified installation. The product targets industrial applications such as construction and mining, offering a high degree of robustness validated through extensive testing against industry standards,” stated Silviu Taujan, product manager at Septentrio.   AntaRx is available in several configurations, either as a GNSS smart antenna or as a GNSS/INS smart antenna system, integrating an Inertial Measurement Unit. This receiver technology integrates Septentrio’s GNSS+ algorithms, including advanced multipath mitigation, said to allow uninterrupted operation in challenging conditions such as near high structures or machinery. Applied for a patent this month on an electric thruster usable from hover to ultra-high velocities, with controllable thrust from newtons to theoretically massive thrust levels. It can implement single-stage-to-orbit propulsion, as well as planetary hover, and deep-space, high-velocity propulsion. It does not carry any reaction mass. The thruster uses the electrical force and momentum of atoms, instead of exotic materials, with rapid, synchronized electric switching, and can be built using today's technologies in a compact form factor. A reference design is included in the linked document. Wanted to get this design out to the public, in case there is interest to try it, as it could advance space travel, as it looks like it will work, on paper, and the available thrust is surprising. A test of the basic properties will determine viability.

Just taking the robot dog out for a walk… 🐶 🤖 “Spot” came to visit us at the Solna/Stockholm office, and we had lots of fun watching all the things he can do. (Which is a lot more than I managed to capture on film, I assure you.) Spot belongs to Vattenfall Research & Development in Älvkarleby, and the team Digital Inspections. 🤖 With robots such as Spot, we can do inspections and maintenance work in hazardous environments. Such as narrow tunnels, areas in nuclear power plants with high radioactivity or locations with reduced oxygen levels. Places that are too risky or impossible for humans to enter. 🤖 Spot is very flexible and can walk up stairs and open doors. He is usually equipped with different sensors, such as heat cameras. ➡ What an impressive way to use new technology to solve problems. Truly inspiring, well done R&D!
