Election years are wonky for retailers and given the economic and social climate, I'd expect to see holiday promotions start... even earlier this year. Last year we started seeing them fly in mid-October, but broadcasting holiday promos and messages much earlier gets challenging (we haven't even thrown out all of the Milk Duds yet). Last year, 32% of holiday transactions were from customers who have purchased at least three times in the past. So if you're looking to go out early... these are your people. They know you. They like you. And they'll be happy you helped them cross a few things off of their list (for others and for themselves). Make sure you have a plan for this audience.
