Once again, I've had an incredible week! Let me give you a brief overview of what I was able to experience! 😎 Among other things, I was able to attend ANGA COM in Cologne last week, where I met Oliver Daeges and Robert Greenhalgh and talked in great detail about broadband rollout and its documentation and got to know the broad product range of 3D-Geo-Radar GmbH and the services of Ingenieurbüro Daeges. Make sure you visit the respective websites - it's really great what they do there. (mentioned below) 😉 And of course I didn't miss out on a visit to the Coreum GmbH to hand over a new demo system from Sodex Innovations to Michael Treller and Jan Hakert from Makineo GmbH. 🙌 Should we build new buildings, or should we renew the existing ones? --- I’m excited to share my upcoming insights on the benefits of renewing existing infrastructure projects. In Peru, we have decided to implement a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in the Health and Education sectors, focusing on revitalizing and equipping a 7-year-old hospital. This initiative will allow the public sector to quickly restore productivity, improve health and safety standards, and deliver significant social benefits. By modernizing and re-equipping the hospital, we aim to enhance the quality of public services in a short timeframe. 🤝 Last week, VIB welcomed Professor Maria Leptin, President of the European Research Council (ERC), for a visit to the Ghent life sciences ecosystem. Reflecting on ERC's impactful journey, Professor Leptin emphasized its pivotal role in fostering European scientific excellence. 📋 Since its inception in 2007, ERC-funded research has led to over 2.400 patents and has resulted in the creation of over 400 start-ups founded or co-founded by ERC grantees across the block. These results are also visible in VIB’s legacy: over the years, research conducted at VIB has led to the creation of more than 30 spin-off companies, many of them by ERC-grantees. 💡Professor Leptin advocated for a significant increase in ERC's research budget, stressing the importance of blue skies research in driving innovation. As a leading institute in basic life sciences research, VIB firmly supports this call, recognizing ERC's essential role in nurturing scientific excellence and driving impactful innovation within our ecosystem.
