When we work in collaboration, we build environments to thrive. We did our annual visit to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek at the weekend. Nestled in a creek at the top of the Helford River, it's surrounded by gentle waters and woodland that comes down to the shore. It's one of Cornwall's quieter attractions, so it's always a peaceful day out. I spent some time at an underground window watching one of the residents use her flippers like hands to move her through the water. Over she'd go, gently rotating as she slipped through the water. It was beautiful. So, back to collaboration. We left the seals and wandered up the leaf-strewn path under the steep woodland to where beavers have been introduced to the river. And there, under the trees, we saw a dam. The area is part of a collaboration with the Beaver Trust to teach stranded kits how to cope in the wild on their own. And all around, a new wetland was teeming with wildlife, attracted by the calmer waters. This got me thinking: 🌳 What beavers had an 'every beaver for themselves' attitude? 🌳 What if they believed that resources were scarce and each individual jealously guarded whatever they had? 🌳 What is there to learn about collaborating with others in the same industry? 🌳 What if by working with others in a spirit of abundance, we create an ecosystem for everyone to thrive? I know I wouldn't be where I am today without the help and support of my writerly friends. They're not competition - they're part of my ecosystem. Who could you reach out to today?
