Have you read about the OpenRAN technology we have helped Vodafone deploy at The 6 Bells Pub in Beenham? Don't miss out on the great news story! #ConnectedBerkshire #DigitalInfrastrcture #DigitalAdoptionStrategy #Berkshire #Beenham #Vodafone #OpenRAN
"It's hugely important for customers to be able to come in and immediately get a decent mobile phone signal, which they can now do." - Nigel, Pub Landlord In February 2024, we worked with Vodafone to install a small cell using OpenRAN technology at The Six Bells pub in the Berkshire village of Beenham. Recently, Vodafone UK News visited The Six Bells to witness first-hand how this clever little box is delivering strong and reliable 4G coverage to the pub, its customers and those living nearby. Vodafone was the first UK mobile operator to switch on a live OpenRAN site in August 2020. Since then, rural communities across the UK have started benefiting from coverage delivered by the technology. This includes villages where small cell OpenRAN has been installed on church bell towers. Three set to miss rural broadband deadline Three is likely to miss its rural broadband coverage targets as the deadline to address mobile signal “not spots” looms. Mobile network operators have until July to extend their coverage to encompass 88% of the UK’s landmass, the initial goal of a £1bn government initiative. While Vodafone has confirmed it will meet the deadline and Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) is also on track, smaller rival Three has stated it is “working hard” to achieve the targets but has not confirmed its compliance. BT, which owns the EE network, recently struck a rural coverage agreement with some of its competitors to help meet the deadline. Sources reveal that BT has arranged for VMO2 and Vodafone to access some of its mobile masts in remote areas. EE, boasting more mobile masts than its rivals and contributing separately to the rural coverage project, met its initial target earlier this year: https://lnkd.in/eqGgQhUr #telecoms #broadband #rural #networks #connectivity

Three new 4G masts in a single weekend - now that’s an incredible achievement! Flown in via helicopter, these three new 4G mobile masts will completely transform Uist in the Outer Hebrides. This upgrade will not only benefit businesses, but provide residents with faster and more reliable connectivity, making it easier for locals to access online services and stay connected with their loved ones. Virgin Media O2 remain committed to bringing reliable mobile coverage to rural areas impacted by not-spots and patchy signal, and I’m always in awe of the work and planning that goes into making this commitment a reality. More locations to come as we continue to close the digital divide. https://lnkd.in/ehe82Ph9

Thinking outside the box for rural connectivity - UK's SRN - a role model of a new collaborative digital divide gap-fill strategy for Canada to consider? The UK SRN - or "Shared Rural Network" is a variant among a class of collaborative multi-carrier "shared network" or "neutral host" models in telecom, and an interesting approach that could work to finally beat #Canada's #chronic #rural #digital #divide. New innovative solutions for Canada to consider vs. more of the same old status-quo.. Vodafone's 200 new rural #cellular sites serve multiple carriers in the UK's SRN in a creative #sharedaccess & Public-Private-Partnership (P3) investment approach, and in areas that would have been still left behind with the status quo. Interesting Vodafone article below that shows international carriers *can* operate successfully within such shared models. For Canadians unfamiliar with the approach (since we've had essentially one legacy vertically-integrated model used in Canada for the past 40 years of telecom regulation) I recommend a quick read of this Vodafone experience article, & also I recommend a read of UK OFCOM's recent "Connected Nations" report (see link below).. Innovation & new approaches can help more quickly bridge Canada's longstanding rural & First Nations digital divide & 911 access gaps. https://lnkd.in/gFQBpbMw? #newsolutions #beatthestatusquo #ISED #CRTC #regulatory #spectrum #innovation #sharednetworks #sharedruralnetwork #newsolutions #digitaldivide #ruralbroadband #ruralconnectivity #ruraleconomy #Canadasdigitaldivide #Canada #Ontario #FirstNations #telecom #communications #telecommunications #4G #5G #6G #PSBN #thefutureisnow #Northerncommunities #connectivity #911dispatch #infrastructure #ruralsolutions #newpaths #communitysafety #digitaleconomy #911accessforall

Parts of rural Wales can now benefit from fast and reliable mobile coverage helping to boost economic growth and bridge the digital divide in remote areas. The first of 86 UK government-funded 4G masts have been switched on as part of joint plan with telecoms firms to deliver mobile connectivity across 95 per cent of the UK landmass. Existing masts have been upgraded to deliver 4G cover while limiting the visual impact of the programme, delivering on the Government’s long term plan. https://lnkd.in/eub-Y3mS

Today Vodafone is kicking off ‘The Great British Broadband Switch' to help people save money and make it easier for them to switch. By switching to Vodafone, people currently with providers including BT, EE and Sky (who use the Openreach network) can get the same reliable full fibre #broadband for less. Customers looking to switch could save £200 vs. BT. We are also making switching easier for those stuck in expensive contracts by offering broadband customers signing up for Full Fibre 900 up to £100 to cover exit fees. Looks like Vodafone is the new Home of Broadband now 😉 To find out more, https://lnkd.in/eXCimKvB.
