As much as I love a spontaneous road trip, it pays off to plan early. These days, many National Parks and popular outdoor spots have reservations or at least require a decent amount of research first. Here's my latest advice in The Washington Post on why, and how, you should start planning your summer trip in the dead of winter #traveladvice #travelwriting #vanlife #roadtrip https://lnkd.in/e6SU7NmQ

Are you hiking the Via Transilvanica in 2024? Fill in the Hiker's Survey! Our concern for the development of facilities and services on the Via Transilvanica is a priority, because hiking this trail is about interacting with the locals, about hospitality, authenticity of the people and spending quality time with recommended hosts in accommodation that respects the hikers and their needs. This is why our friends from Roland Berger are researching the accommodation facilities on the trail. We want to find out more about hikers' needs, sleeping facilities or preferences. We are looking for people who will be setting off on the trail for the first time this year or who have already hiked parts of Via Transilvanica and are about to return. Completing the survey takes about 8 minutes, and if you fill it in on a mobile phone we recommend you turn it over horizontally. The survey can be completed in Romanian or English. It helps us a lot if you share the survey with friends, relatives or other people you know they are planning to hike or return to Via Transilvanica. The path that unites is thanking you! Effective pre-trip planning is your first step towards a more enjoyable and responsible hiking trip. Here’s how you can prepare: 1️⃣ Research Your Destination: Understand the area’s regulations, weather patterns, and terrain. This helps in minimizing surprises and respecting local guidelines. 2️⃣ Leave No Trace Principles: Familiarize yourself with and commit to following Leave No Trace principles. Plan to pack out all your trash, stay on trails, and minimize campfire impacts. 3️⃣ Pack Smart: Choose eco-friendly, durable gear that can handle the adventure without harming the environment. Remember, lighter packs mean less strain on you and the trails. 4️⃣ Safety First: Share your travel plans with someone you trust. Include your route, expected return time, and any other important details. 5️⃣ Skill Preparation: Brush up on essential outdoor skills, such as navigation, first aid, and sustainable camping practices. Knowledge is as critical as your physical gear. 👣 By taking the time to plan carefully, you ensure not only your safety but also the protection of the beautiful places we love to explore. Let’s make every adventure count by leaving the places we visit better than we found them. Imagine you're going on this very exciting tour like hiking or exploring a forest with your friends or maybe just going solo, there are some things you should know about how to keep yourself safe and have a great adventure. First, let's talk about the weather. Sometimes it can be sunny and warm, but other times it might rain or get really windy. You have to be prepared with both the right clothes and even equipment to handle whatever situation you might face. Then there's the terrain, which is the ground you're walking or climbing on. It might be rocky, slippery, or really steep in some places. So, you have to watch your step and be extremely careful not to trip or slip. Also, wildlife encounters can be very exciting. You might come across any kind of wildlife like birds, deer, or even bears depending on the destination you're visiting. It's important to respect their space and not get too close, especially with wild animals. Now, about traffic and road safety, sometimes, adventure tours involve crossing roads or hiking near busy areas. Always look both ways before crossing and stick close to your group or tour guide. Last but no least, your physical fitness is highly important. Adventure tours can be tiring because you might be doing a lot of walking and climbing. Make sure you're in good shape and take breaks when you need to catch your breath. So, remember, adventure tours are fun, but it's also important to stay safe and prepared for whatever adventures come your way. Have you encountered any hazards or risks during your tours? Share your experience and tips in the comments. #adventure #tour #adventuretourism #safetytips #travel #exploring

🔥 Trusted Arsonist of Bad Copy | Fiery Content Consultant - SEO Specialist | Career Journalist, Editor, Publisher, Travel Writer 🔥 Avid Wordler, Bingo Player, and Bath-taker (Hey, I can’t burn it up all day. 🤷🏻♀️🛁)
On our third hike of the season today, I did something I’ve never done before. I rode with a Canadian! 🤣 I had driven a Canadian-tagged vehicle in America back in ‘93 during an impromptu weekend with a rowdy group of Australian wheat harvesters. (Remind me to write this story later. It cracks me up every time I think about it.) But never had I ridden in a car with a Canadian behind the wheel. I know. Be jealous. My adventures truly never cease. 😂 Today, we explored the Lost Gold Mine and Hieroglyphics trailheads in the Paralta Trails with our guide, Mel.👇 He’s a travel writer’s dream guide. 🤤 He’s in his 80s, and no one can keep up with him. He’s been hiking these trails so long that he can tell you where most of them go, how many have been added and how they got there in the first place. Mel only hikes on Thursdays, though, so when I want to hike without Mel I have to rely on the good ol’ intrawebs to get my hiking trail info. I LOVE me a good travel website. Maybe because I actually contribute to some of the ones I use? 🤷🏻♀️🤣 And one of my favorite things to read and write about are hiking spots. There are so many ways you can branch out on your travel website with hiking blogs. Let’s call them SEO gold, shall we? There are a gazillion popular topics that every hiker will at some point search for: - Trails - Levels of difficulty - Guided vs. solo - Safety - Gear - Camping nearby - Cell phone reception 👈👈👈 (I love this one. So unique. 💝) I could go on all day, but I’ve been out with Mel, and I’m pooped. (That’s knackered in British English.) 🫠 Hit me up for some hiking blogs … or just steal those ideas above and get your little butt busy. 🫵🏻 #jugglingfire #contentcreation #copywritingservices #sixmilehike Isn’t Mel (front) the cutest? 🥰 That brain is FULL of fascinating stuff!

9moSo important as many popular National Parks will require a reservation this summer (which I fully support). The only tricky part is making a reservation for parks that only allow tickets to roll out three months advanced in a time, which slows down the planning process for this summer.
