Did you know that if you read just one book a week, you will be within the top 1% of readers in the United States? It's a powerful statistic that highlights the reading epidemic we face. Our children learn from our behaviors, and fostering a love for reading in them starts with us. I'm currently rereading classical literature without the academic pressures, and it's been incredibly rewarding. There's something magical about revisiting these timeless works at my own pace, savoring each page and reflecting on their relevance today. I'd love to hear your recommendations for my TBR list! What classics or hidden gems do you suggest I dive into next? #ReadingJourney #ClassicalLiterature #Top1Percent #ReadingEpidemic #BookRecommendations #TBRList

Tuesday, April 23rd is World Book Day. This day is designated to help promote reading, encourage exploring different types of literature, and to discover the benefits of reading. Unfortunately, there is a continual decline in literacy reading. The ten-year rate of decline has accelerated from -5% to -14% since 1992. People are reading fewer books each year and it’s a global phenomenon. Reading is critical for development at all ages, and it is an important form of learning. There are many benefits: · Stimulating our minds and increasing our vocabulary · Teaching us new things and improving our focus · Relaxing us and reducing stress On World Book Day, challenge yourself to set a reading goal for you or your team while reinforcing the importance and benefits of picking up a good book! How many books have you read this year and what do you enjoy most about reading? Suzanne Sherry Virginia Cavanagh #development #reading #worldbookday

In-person tickets open: Whither the Public Lecture? Book via: https://gres.hm/provost-24 Professor Martin Elliottt delivers our annual Provost's Lecture and asks: In an era supposedly characterised by shorter attention spans, and greater competition for that attention, what space is left for the public lecture and what is its purpose? Why do people still want to deliver them? What makes a great lecture? What is the relative importance of an in-person v an online audience? Is audience size an indication of the value of lecture content? Can the public lecture survive? This lecture will address these and other questions from a personal, but hopefully informed, perspective. #education #lecture #publicdebate
