✅ Today, as we celebrate International Youth Day, I’d like to reflect on an activity I participated in last week. ➡️ I had the pleasure of attending Regional Youth Cooperation Office - RYCO focus group research session, aimed at preparing their new strategy. This opportunity allowed me to share my insights and ideas and learn from colleagues active in youth policies in Montenegro. I'm excited to see how our collective efforts will contribute to shaping an impactful strategy for the future. ✔️ Youth in the Western Balkan region face similar challenges, and they are eager to work on resolving them. Including as many stakeholders as possible should be our priority, and our efforts to ensure a better status for WB youth should have a greater impact. I urge everyone to take any opportunity to help, teach, advise, or invest in policies, strategies, businesses, and any other initiatives that can support youth. Also, my advice to young inviduals is to take the offered opportunities and actively engage in their societies. There are so many seminars, free courses and certificates that could help you for future career. 🤩 ✨ Whenever I attend seminars in the Balkans, I am reminded of the huge potential that exists here. I particularly like that RYCO focuses on mobility in their projects because reflecting back on my experiences with NGO sector, I believe that specific dimension adds such a significant value. However, nothing at the end would be as successful as we would expect if there is no political will. Thus the role of the Government and its administration is essential. The Albanian Head of the Network has taken an initiative to strengthen and promote cooperation between the ALF member organizations from the South and the North of the Mediterranean, in particular with the intention to increase the involvement of the Albanian network members in such partnerships. As part of that initiative 15 applications were received, of which 7 were selected. Reflecting on my experience from four months ago at the ECOWAS 2024 Youth ‘Voices for Change’ Summit in Accra, Ghana, held in June. I was honored to represent Nigeria at this impactful event where I engaged with passionate youth leaders on the theme: "Digital Innovation, Inclusivity, Regional Economic Growth, Peace, and Stability." Which was truly inspiring. I’ve been quite busy with work and navigating life, which is why I’m sharing this now. The summit was indeed impactful as it fostered youth-led digital innovations, amplified our voices in policy design, and explored partnerships to scale these initiatives. It was inspiring to collaborate with youth leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to co-create solutions that address the aspirations of young Africans and to advocate for policies that promote an enabling environment for digital transformation. Organized by the ECOWAS Commission and partners like USAID and UNOWAS, the event underscored the importance of leveraging technology for inclusive development and sustainable peace. Also it will excite you to know that the theme is particularly relevant in today’s digital age, emphasizing the need for Us as African youth to harness technology for inclusive development and sustainable peace across our continent. To crown it all, my key take away and encouragement to fellow African youths is this: - “The present will not give way to the future if the future does not actively participate in the activities of the present.” - Therefore, We must earnestly engage in today’s activities, for we are the future. ! I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such vital discussions and as I continue to build connections and grow professionally, I’m excited to share that there are more adventures and success stories to come. On the second week, May 17th, we were introduced to the African Union (AU) by Keagetswe Alex Kgotlaetsile. He provided us with a comprehensive overview of the AU and its Agenda 2063, which was adopted in 2015. Broad View of the AU The AU is a continental union consisting of member states, working to promote unity, peace, and development across Africa. It plays a crucial role in coordinating efforts to address common challenges and achieve collective goals. What is the AU Agenda 2063 about? Agenda 2063 is the AU's strategic framework for transforming Africa into a global powerhouse of the future. It encompasses various aspirations aimed at sustainable development and inclusive growth. Aspirations of Agenda 2063 1. A Strong Cultural Identity: One key aspiration is fostering an Africa with a strong cultural identity, common heritage, shared values, and ethics. This resonated deeply with me, especially given the current trend of Africans, particularly Nigerians, increasingly embracing foreign cultures and neglecting their own heritage. How Can We Progress? To truly advance towards this aspiration, we must: - Active Participation: Engage actively in cultural events and initiatives. - Innovation and Creativity: Use innovative approaches to promote and preserve our cultural heritage. - Advocacy and Awareness: Advocate for and raise awareness about the importance of cultural identity. - Skill Development and Education: Encourage the development of skills and education that emphasize African values and heritage. - Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment: Foster youth entrepreneurship and employment opportunities that celebrate and incorporate African culture. By taking these steps, we can ensure that we progress towards a future where Africa’s rich cultural identity is celebrated and preserved, rather than forgotten. I spoke on stages, l networked, l learnt a lot on how continental and regional spaces work and even learnt the process of drafting declarations…look out for the 2024 Addis Ababa Youth declaration. I am just an African “young” lady who is delulu about vision 2063 and doing whatever is in my power to realise it, probably not even for my own generation. I am blessed to lead a progressive youth organization Elevate Trust Zw and to be recognized and speak about our work whilst also getting the opportunity to collaborate with other youth organizations.Thanks to United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, PanAfrican Youth Union,UNDP & AfricanUnion .
