I'm on a panel at this forum next week, to talk about how we deal with the risk of modern slavery in renewable energy supply chains. As the forum will show, this is not a challenge unique to renewable energy, but our industry needs to be part of a solution to this global problem. Looking forward to the discussion.

The Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry QLD is a crucial step toward reconciliation. Acknowledging and addressing past injustices is essential for building a foundation of healing and respect, especially for those of our First Nations people whose stories and experiences have long been silenced and overlooked. Within just days of taking power, the LNP is set to abolish Queensland's first real step towards affirmative action for hearing the voices of First Nations people. We did not come this far, to only come this far. Key Aspects of Grassroots Peacebuilding. Local Ownership: Grassroots initiatives are owned and driven by local communities, ensuring that the efforts are relevant and culturally appropriate. Inclusivity: Effective peacebuilding involves the inclusion of diverse groups within the community, youth, government & public safety leaders, private sector, volunteers and marginalized populations. Dialogue and Mediation: Facilitating open dialogue and mediation between conflicting parties to foster understanding and reconciliation. Education and Awareness: Educating the community about the importance of peace and conflict resolution strategies. Non-Violent Action: Promoting non-violent methods of protest and conflict resolution.

Successful peacebuilding requires active participation from local leaders, grassroots organizations, and community members, ensuring that solutions are relevant and effective. Not only does this allow local communities to lead and own the programs that impact them, evidence suggests that peacebuilding programs are more successful when they are local. But what makes local peacebuilding work?

🚨 A historic step forward in combating modern slavery in Australia 🚨 Congratulations to Chris Evans on his appointment as Australia’s first federal Anti-slavery Commissioner. This is a critical appointment in the ongoing fight against modern slavery in Australia. At JMI, we were proud to partner with the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner Dr James Cockayne to support the development of the Office’s first Strategic Plan. In 2022-23, we co-convened a series of expert workshops, bringing together policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to identify key challenges and opportunities for effective action.
