It’s Mental Health Awareness week this week. Positive mental health encompasses so many different elements, it’s different for everyone. For me, being out in nature, grounding techniques, staying physically active, eating well, giving to others, having goals and being around others who lift me; glass half full kinda people and people who can make me belly laugh! I also believe that employment is a therapeutic tool to positive wellbeing if in the right role, with the right employer. Work is important for me, as it is for most. Having a job role with security, meaningful, and doing something I’m passionate about. Not everybody is so fortunate to be in that position, for an infinite number of reasons! If you know somebody out of work, or who is really unhappy in their current job, who is thinking about options, doesn’t know what to do, or what they can do and would benefit from some support - please direct them to Opportunity Sheffield - Sheffield City Council for a chat about how we could support them take steps towards meaningful employment!

Excellent article of what can be achieved with tailored support. 👏👏👏

Research shows that job satisfaction is not only derived from monetary gain, but more so from the sense of adding value in the workplace and being supported. We are currently fine tunning the expression of Everyday Solitude to grow its brand impact through our corporate Mental Health Awareness Week campaign. We want to open up the conversation around lived experience and discuss how to deal with the nuances of life while staying a committed member of the workplace. How do you deal with grief and deadlines? How do you support post-partum mums and the adjustment to coming back to work? How do you manage boundaries and uncomfortable but necessary conversations? We are here to talk about it! New Zealand businesses; I’ll be in touch. Jessica

Last few weeks many posts ran on Mental Health week. So it feels appropriate to talk about mental health for us in HR. As custodians of policies and guidelines, objective advisors & patient problem solvers, we hold ourselves to higher standards in being fair, doing the right thing and holding the mirror. On top of that, we balance the business priorities, HR processes and employee advocacy on a tight rope! Needless to say it takes a toll. Here’s what I found, works for me: 1️⃣ Be respectfully direct 🎯. Clearer the communication, easier the 🗣️conversation. 2️⃣ Foster a culture of mutual respect for the expertise everyone brings to the table. When we defer to respective strengths 💪and are clear on decision makers vs influencers, we take away the stress to solve everything ourselves. 3️⃣ Share your dilemma and vulnerabilities 🧐. HR is also human. We also have good and bad days. Till our intent is aligned, we can take different paths 🛣️to get there! Oh and I also indulge in my hobby and make the time to paint. Get away from it all!!! What works for you? Keen to hear your strategies to ‘keep it all together’.

It's Mental Health Awareness Week 🧠 🧡 Picture this: You're hiring and have a sea of CVs before you. Ever wondered what's behind each candidate's qualifications and experiences? It's their mental health, often unnoticed, yet pivotal in their work life. Recruitment isn't just about ticking skill boxes. It's about people - real humans with real lives outside the 9-5, each with their own mental health story. 🤝 If we ignore this, we're not just hiring half a person; we're neglecting the part that drives passion, creativity, and resilience. Let's make mental well-being a priority not only after they come aboard but right from the first interaction. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #Recruitment #HumanFirst
