Last week marked a significant stride in advocating for essential changes to children's mental health. My participation at the House of Commons to discuss "the impact of Covid on children's mental well-being" was a pivotal moment. Thanks to Jason Baker and Healthwatch Essex for this incredible opportunity. I raised a crucial concern: Children often mask trauma, not immediately showing symptoms of poor mental health. Yet, what happens in 10-20 years when these children, having hidden the scars of lockdown, face severe mental health issues, struggle to maintain jobs, relationships, and daily life? Shouldn't we proactively intervene, especially in schools, before symptoms manifest? Preventing the need for treatment is key. Awaiting a response, their lack of answers shows the need and understanding for the area that is suppressed trauma in children. Let’s support with open discussions and push for: Early Intervention- Early Education- Early Rehabilitation Together we can make a difference! You may not know this, but street children are very vulnerable and highly likely to be victims of trauma and stress! Supporting vulnerable children in coping with trauma and stress is paramount. Here are three essential strategies that you can implement to help children deal and get through trauma and stress: Provide Emotional Support: Create a safe and supportive environment where children feel comfortable expressing their feelings. Empathy and understanding are key to helping them navigate their emotions. Implement Trauma-Informed Care: Adopting trauma-informed practices acknowledges the impact of trauma on a child's development. Understand their triggers, avoid re-traumatization, and use strategies that promote healing. Engage in Therapeutic Activities: Encourage children to participate in therapeutic activities such as art therapy, play therapy, music therapy, or mindfulness exercises. If trauma symptoms persist or worsen, seeking professional help from qualified mental health professionals is crucial. By incorporating these practices, we can provide the necessary support to help vulnerable children heal and thrive. #sccwi #streetchildren #careforchildren #kindness #compassion #empathy #mentalhealth #tgif
