One of the downside of switching from individual contributor to management as a software engineer is that it becomes increasingly difficult to get a new role the higher you climb the corperate ladder. There are more vacancies for Software engineers than for managers. SO IT IS NOT A BAD THING TO BE AN IC FOR THE WHOLE OF YOUR CAREER.
