    Prioritizing Substance: A New Lens for Cybersecurity Excellence The principle of substance over form is significant in financial reporting and cybersecurity. It's about looking beyond surface appearances and focusing on the underlying essence—a perspective often overlooked today. In my experience in technology and cybersecurity advisory, I've witnessed organizations rush to obtain certifications like PCI-DSS or ISO standards for the sake of optics rather than a genuine commitment to cybersecurity culture. The cycle repeats itself: certification is achieved, followed by a return to old habits until the next recertification round. Similarly, cybersecurity training and awareness programs are often treated as mere checkboxes on a compliance list, lacking the depth needed to foster an authentic security culture. Now, passing that certification to demonstrate compliance with best practices is great, but putting the tenets into practice so that they become part of your culture is far better. Carrying out cybersecurity awareness is great, but ensuring that the learning is put into practice is far better. Acquiring a fancy security tool is great, but having a comprehensive approach that addresses underlying cyber risks and vulnerabilities to protect sensitive data and systems from cyber threats is far better. Ultimately, the success of cybersecurity efforts isn't measured by certificates on the wall or the sophistication of tools but by the strength of the organization's security culture.     Passion. Talent. Money. Some say you should pursue your passion while some think it is good to do what is obtainable legitimately until what you are doing can support your passion. What if your passion ain't footing your bills? Will your passion foot bills? Will your passion buy gas? Will your passion pay for the kid's school fees? Pursue your passion but do not detach yourself from the reality of life. If your passion won't take you home, consider what will take you home as a catalyst to drive your passion.     This is an MRI of the upper leg a 40 year old triathlete, 74 year old sedentary man & 70 year old triathlete. The dark part around the bone is muscle. The white part is fat. What you'll see in this picture is that the 40 year old and 70 year old have the same amount of muscle on their bodies while the 74 sedentary man does not (obviously). Studies show that an 80 year old who lifts weights is stronger than a 30 year old man who doesn't. What you should take from both of these examples is that you either use it or you lose it. Working out can be the difference between living a quality life until you're elderly or living in a nursing home needing someone to wipe your butt for you. Make time to exercise, it’s your path to a quality life worth living.
