If you are a junior software engineer/fresh graduate, this is why you should consider working from office instead of working remotely - You get the space to build relationships organically in person with colleagues which is very difficult online. You also get to meet new people and build relationships with them. You get the space to have unplanned conversations and impromptu discussions providing invaluable learnings from senior members of the team. You have discussions which are almost impossible to have online because they are not planned. You observe and learn from behavioral traits of successful senior members of the team; as to how they show up at work, how they promote themselves, what do personalities of successful software engineers look like — thereby developing your own confidence and personality. Learning all of this takes a lot more time remotely. #softwareengineering #workfromoffice

At different stages of our careers, we learn and adapt to new requirements and challenges. When I started my career, I believed that coding was the hardest and most important part of software development. As I progressed to a mid-level position, I realized that solving problems, designing the right systems, and delivering on time were crucial. Now, at the senior level, I see that it's about selecting the right problems to invest our resources in, owning the product lifecycle, and training the next generation of engineers. We finished a 10-week recruitment process for our 2024 internship program yesterday. You need to know that we take this program very seriously. We hope that the people we accept to the program today will lead our teams and organizations in the future. For that, we need to find the best young talent—the best in terms of their theoretical computer science knowledge and their cultural fit to #ApptioPoland. The effort behind the scenes to choose the people with whom we will work starting July is always tremendous, but this year was special for two reasons: we got an overwhelming response from the market with 850 candidates that applied in just a few weeks, and also because we wanted to accept more people than in previous years. With such a big interest in our program, we could be picky. We filtered out candidates without very good formal IT education. Sorry – no weekend programming courses this time. 300 people received a test designed by our engineers to check CS theory, programming languages knowledge, software engineering concepts, etc. We called 50 people with the best scores, did the recruitment screening with every one of them, and invited 30 for interviews with our developers and engineering managers. This is where we checked programming skills in practice and overall culture fit. 13 candidates received “three yes” during interview debriefs, and we decided to offer 9 people. On top of that, one person got a job offer for a junior developer position. This will not be the easiest internship those people could get, but it will surely be worth the effort.  Six months of real work on real assignments with demanding (but very friendly) best-in-class software engineers. I want to thank our recruiters, Dominika Kus and Natalia Misiuna, for flawlessly executing this process. You both rock! Can’t wait to meet all nine chosen ones 6 weeks from now at Apptio, an IBM Company. You can be really proud of yourself!
