CLINICAL DOCUMENTATION INTEGRITY: Fostering Collaboration and Embracing a Long-Term Vision Success in Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) programs hinges on a symbiotic effort from all key players, comprising Medical Staff, Physician Advisors, CDI specialists, UM, QM, Coding, Appeals Management, Contracting, Compliance, departmental leadership, and the C-suite. Establishing a robust continuing education initiative is paramount to enhancing the proficiency of medical staff, CDI specialists, and coders, promoting seamless alignment. Integrating a high-caliber EHR system and leveraging AI capabilities can streamline processes and alleviate administrative burden. Above all, prioritizing the patient at the core of the documentation and coding process ensures an accurate portrayal of the clinical landscape, yielding invaluable data to improve patient care and outcomes. Rather than solely focusing on KPIs, it is essential to prioritize root cause analysis of payer denials and concentrate on patient outcome metrics. This commitment to precision not only optimizes revenue streams but also establishes sustainable and resilient financial outcomes. Adhering to this long-term vision is key to achieving success. In the words of my esteemed colleague, Jennifer (Laughlin) Mueller, MBA, RHIA, SHIMSS, FACHE, FAHIMA, the 2023 AHIMA Board President and Chair, "It's the patient’s story…we are just the storytellers.” This embodies Health Information (HI) at its pinnacle... #AHIMA #ACDIS #PhysicianAdvisors #UtilizationManagement #QualityManagement #AppealsManagement #Compliance #HealthcareFinance #HospitalManagement #DataIntegrity

"Business Operations Strategist – I collaborate with organizations to refine their processes, using consultative approaches that drive growth, improve efficiency, and enhance overall performance.
The Evolving Pharmacy Industry: Navigating Change and Embracing Opportunity The pharmacy industry stands at the precipice, reshaped by government deregulation and significant policy shifts. These changes aren't just procedural; they're transformative, heralding a new era for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians alike. The Expanding Role of Pharmacists Gone are the days when pharmacists' responsibilities were confined to dispensing prescriptions. Today, they're at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively with Family Health Teams to provide comprehensive healthcare services. This shift is not only a testament to their expertise but also a response to the pressing need for accessible healthcare solutions, as highlighted in a recent article (Heres what you need to know about pharmacists new prescribing powers in Ontario). The Vital Role of Pharmacy Technicians Parallelly, the role of pharmacy technicians is undergoing significant expansion. Beyond managing medication inventories and overseeing dispensing processes, they're now integral to maintaining the operational efficiency of pharmacies. This evolution enables technicians to alleviate some of the clinical burdens from pharmacists, allowing for a more patient-centric approach to healthcare delivery. Technological Innovations: A Double-Edged Sword While technology promises to streamline pharmacy operations, facilitating more efficient patient care, it also introduces challenges. The reliance on outdated technologies like standalone fax machines exemplifies the hurdles in automating pharmacy tasks. Overcoming these barriers is crucial to preventing professional burnout and ensuring the seamless integration of pharmacists and technicians into broader healthcare roles. A Future Vision for Healthcare The transformation within the pharmacy sector reflects a broader trend towards multidisciplinary healthcare, where pharmacies play a crucial role in bridging the care gap exacerbated by the shortage of family doctors in Ontario and Canada. By leveraging the full spectrum of pharmacists' skills, the healthcare system can provide more accessible, efficient care, potentially setting a precedent for other regions grappling with similar challenges. Embracing these changes with open arms and a forward-thinking mindset is crucial for the industry's future success. #pharmacist #pharmacybusiness #pharmacy #retailinnovation

When hiring a clinical/medical consultant for your business it's important to understand how we work so that you can get the most out of the consultation. 1. Fees Most physicians in this space are quite flexible with their rates. They'll have an hourly rate, a retainer rate, and set fees for each consultation project. The best way to negotiate is to guarantee them more hours of work in return for a lower hourly fee. 2. Time commitment Physicians who do this kind of work often do it part time so they are likely involved in other ongoing projects. If your consulting needs has major gaps between projects then it's likely the physician will lose interest or forget all the facts of your particular case which makes it start and stops really cumbersome. 3. Involve the team When a physician first comes on to consult they'll need to gather a lot of data. They know whom they need to interview and what questions to ask. Introduce them to the entire team and give them the free reign to set up meetings. Check in regularly to make sure they are moving in the right direction. 4. Solving problems You likely have a problem in mind that you need solving but you may not know how deep rooted that problem is. The discovery call with the physician can be great to help that medical consultant tease out all the relevant fact. Both you and they will learn a lot in the process. 5. Check in regularly Even if the consultant is off writing something for you or creating an algorithm they likely will feel rather siloed unless they have a team member that can check in with them regularly.
