It's back-to-school season! Over the next few days, we're sharing five practical tips to help set your family up for a successful school year. 🏆📝 ⚓ Tip 3: When relating to your child and relaying stories from your past, it's crucial to share your experiences without reliving your anxieties. Discover the power of becoming your kids' "trusty and rusty anchor" during times of change in this short clip!

Talk a little bit about that, you know, being as the parent. Relaying Information, experiences. Why is it important, Steve, to? Remember your experience, but not to relive them alongside. Yeah, that that is huge. And it it goes beyond just the start of the school year. But I think, you know, we're role models for our kids and sometimes we. We hesitate to let them know that we get nervous, that we also worry that we are unsure when when we're not familiar with upcoming situations and and it's OK to to verbalize that. And it's especially helpful if you can tell your own success stories well, what what's helped me in the past when I felt that way is to. And even if you failed, like the story I just told, even if you if you failed, you could even start with, Well, I wish I would have known when I was your age what I wish I would have known. But it's a delicate balance because you don't wanna totally relive your own issues. And I when you said middle school, Johanna, that a lot of our. Our listeners, our middle parents of middle schoolers, it it brought back a very clear memory of mine because I was in middle school for many, many, most of my career. And I'd watch the parents tour their kids around the school, and I would watch them try to navigate the paddle, the lockers, and I could pick up vividly that the parents were actually more nervous than the kids were. I knew the kids would be OK because I've lived it for so many years. I knew all the teachers would be out in the hallways helping. But for that parent, they were literally struggling with their own anxieties and worries so much. That it was like spilling over, even to the point of where I might have a parent say to me. Now she really gets nervous about new situation just right in front of the kid. And. It it almost would like set up this continuation of the next generation of nervousness and the next generation of of anxiety. So role model, relay your experiences, but try not to relive the worst of your your, your issues. Yes, and so we were we were in my office preparing for this and you met you said something like, you know, be their anchor, you're rusty there, be there rusty. Thinker And then I thought, well, we should be there. Trusty and Rusty Anchor and so just you know. As your children transition into this school year, you know they're going to have a lot of variables and there's going to be a lot of things changing. But you know, if you can be there constant, you know, if they can have the parents, grandparents, you know, someone they're close to be kind of that trustee and rusty anchor, that will definitely help them.

🚶♀️🌳 Team EFR laced up and stepped out for the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative Walk in Des Moines today! We joined numerous organizations downtown, uniting with thousands of Iowans across the state for a 30-minute walk aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles.
