The next Housing Justice Fellowship cohort will begin soon, in collaboration with Empower Missouri and Springfield Tenants Unite (STUN)! In 2024 we are expanding to include leaders from more communities around the state, with a focus on the Rolla, Columbia, and Springfield areas. The Fellowship is a six-month program designed to teach you how to organize or strengthen a tenant union. Through eight training sessions and a variety of outreach activities and events, Fellows will learn about the politics of housing, build their communication skills with peers and decision-makers, identify issues and solutions in their buildings and neighborhoods, and build capacity to organize tenant power in their communities. Visit https://lnkd.in/gf4vh96f to learn more, complete an initial Interest Form, and sign up to receive more information. If the program is not a good fit for you, we hope you will spread the word to your networks. THIS IS A COMMUNITY CONVERSATION. Did you know that District Attorneys and Judges are elected positions that can directly impact how justice is served in our neighborhoods? Do you know the School Board decides what kind of education your children receive, the programs they have access to, and how resources are distributed in your community? Do you know who’s responsible for making decisions about Housing in your area—the very people who determine whether affordable housing is built or if gentrification continues? Now is the time to take control of the decisions being made in your community. Join us on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, for “Hey Black Man: Tap In—Get Out and Vote,” an impactful gathering where a panel of Black men and community leaders will discuss why our vote matters and how we can use it to make real change. This isn’t just about politics—it’s about empowering ourselves, our families, and our future. RSVP & SHARE: bit.ly/heyblackman #GETOUTANDVOTE #VOTINGMATTERS #IMPACTTHEVOTE #OAKLAND #ALAMEDACOUNTY

📢 Attention, DC community! This DC Emancipation Day, let's honor the spirit of freedom and equality by supporting access to justice for all. As we commemorate this historic day, join us in supporting funding for DC's Access to Justice program, ensuring that every resident can exercise their rights and seek justice. For 18 years, D.C. Access to Justice Commission has been tirelessly working to ensure that low- and moderate-income residents have access to the civil justice system. In D.C., these residents are majority Black and brown individuals. Right now, they need our support more than ever. The Access to Justice Initiative, administered by the D.C. Bar Foundation, provides crucial funding to over 30 community-based organizations each year, offering free legal help to those in need. However, funding cuts have put this essential program at risk. We urge the D.C. Council to restore necessary funding to the Access to Justice Initiative. Civil legal services are not a luxury—they're a necessity for the safety, economic stability, and community health of our district. Let's stand together to ensure that all residents have the access to justice they deserve in our Nation’s capital. Spread the word and support funding for DC's Access to Justice program: https://lnkd.in/daygkneg #AccesstoJustice #AccesstoJusticeCommission #DCEmancipation #DCEmancipationDay #SupportJustice #DCCommunity

Far too often, those who show up to speak at public meetings when a multi-family housing project or MBTA Communities proposal is on the agenda are older, longtime residents who, frankly, already have a place to live. Often missing from that conversation are the voices of younger adults who, due to the difficulty of finding housing in Greater Boston, have or are considering leaving the state. And often, those younger workers tell us, they’d like to be part of the conversation about expanding housing availability. But don’t know where to start, who to talk to, or when to show up. That’s why our chamber, in partnership with CHAPA is launching an effort to engage young professionals in local housing conversations, starting with our virtual Housing Advocacy Workshop Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. Attendees don’t have to live or work in our chamber's communities to attend. In fact, that’s the whole idea: Municipal leaders need to hear from people who wish they could live and work in our cities and towns. If there’s someone in your orbit that might find this of interest please share this link with them.

💜"#PFFC’s #outreach #strategy has #three #objectives: (1) inform individuals who lack stable housing of efforts that are being made on their behalf to obtaining sustainable and affordable housing; (2) build awareness in the broader DC population of the tremendous need in DC for affordable and sustainable housing; and (3) bring the need for sustainable and stable housing to the attention of the Mayor, the DC City Council, and others responsible for setting priorities around affordable housing in Washington DC." #PeopleForFairnessCoalition
