College Admissions in the 1990s versus 2024 is like a whole different world.🤯 Most parents applied to college in the 90s when even MIT had an acceptance rate of 30%+ and Hopkins was 50%+. They don't realize we’ve never seen this level of selectivity at any school before. For most students, college admissions feel like "me vs. them". Students who have THE MOST success are the ones who are able to articulate how they have grown, evolved, and shown the most promise in their high school/young adult journey. When high school starts to feel like "me vs. me" students find WAY more enjoyment and can truly embrace and celebrate their growth. 📈 Although it may seem counterintuitive, these students are WAYYYYY happier than the alternative with an outward focus. #smallstepsbigresults #shineyourlight #collegeadmissions

College Admission Trends 2023 ➡ Early Decision and Early Action continue to gain in popularity. Many students opted for early application plans such as Early Decision and Early Action. Traditionally, colleges only admitted about 30% of their first-year classes through early admission rounds, but this has changed. Barnard College admitted 62% through Early Decision, Boston University 50%, Johns Hopkins 60%, Tulane University 68%, Penn 51% and the list goes on. Students who wait until Regular Decision to apply may now have a lower chance of admission. . I am passionate about working with my clients to guide the process, which includes informing parents and empowering students. 💖 I help new & struggling advisors understand the process & culture of admissions🌻Leadership Coach🌹 Podcast Host🎙️
This has been an ongoing trend in admissions, so here are two points: #️⃣1 Growing a school is a "School Wide" effort, not an admissions thingamabob. #️⃣2 Every team within a school should take accountability for every student at different steps in the admissions process. It can't always be admissions when something goes left. 👉🏽 The engine at the front end needs more support. 🤔 Admissions teams face constant rejection and disrespect from tons of potentional students each day just so: ✅Financial aid can package just one more student... ✅Instructors can educate just one more person... ✅Career Services can provide just one more opportunity... Please give admissions folks more credit and show them more respect. #accountability #collegesanduniversities #admissions #admissionsprocess

In this week's episode of Let's Talk ED, join Zahi Atallah and @John Mercer for a thought-provoking discussion on key issues shaping current day higher education. Segment 1: "Trust in Two-Year Colleges: Why Americans Prefer Community Colleges Over 4-Year Institutions" John and Zahi explore the growing trust in two-year colleges across the U.S. and why they are often seen as more accessible, flexible, and practical compared to four-year institutions. Surveys show that community colleges play a higher role in bridging the gap between education and employment. While not a competition between institutions, the perspective of a large swath of the electorate seems to favor the community college because of the educational accessibility, welcoming environment, and perceived quality of the learning. Segment 2: "Focusing on the Workforce: How Colleges Should Prepare Students for the Job Market" As the job market continues to evolve, higher education must adapt. This conversation delves into how colleges can better prepare students for real-world careers and how partnerships with industries are becoming increasingly vital. The task for higher education is to do the groundwork for the workforce development required to maintain the economic, innovative, and industrial edge and leadership of the American economy. Segment 3: "Direct College Admissions: A Potential Game Changer for Students and Schools" Could direct admissions be the future of college enrollment? In this segment, John and Zahi discuss the potential of direct admissions programs and how they might remove barriers, streamline processes, and provide more equitable access to higher education for all. Some, like this author, are concerned that the lack of transparency in college admissions, especially when it comes to test scores and grades, contributes to making the process more unfair and inequitable. #GreatCollegeAdvice #CollegeAdmissions #TestScores
