Music Foundry's Tom and Rick attended 'Revolutionising Streams: Unleashing Africa's Music Powerhouse' on Tuesday, and got to hang out and listen to some very straight talking industry players who shared valuable, direct insights. We’re glad we dedicated time to attending this panel. Those in the know - know - but it really reinforced the need for education and greater awareness of this complex emerging market. At Music Foundry, we value such straightforward discussions that cut to the heart of industry challenges. Some key themes: ➡️ Gillian Ezra (ayoba) openly discussed fragmented billing problems across this territory. She emphasised that building a streaming service is extremely costly, especially when trying to keep pace with emerging tech. Local players often exhaust funding, lacking the deep pockets of tech giants. Also a candid view on local and international rep. ➡️ Abraham Fikru shared his unvarnished story of founding Sewasew Multimedia, navigating success despite minimal local industry infrastructure. This guy has persevered through thick and thin! ➡️ Virginie Chelles provided astute market intelligence, detailing how Tuned Global have developed key features and services specifically for the African market. ➡️ Marc Latilla (Warner Music Group) offered specific, practical insights on the importance of introducing an ad-funded model to this marketplace.
