In the New Disability Action Plan, the UK Government has set out 32 practical actions to make the UK the most accessible place in the world. The plan consulted over 1,300 people with a disability, their families and other interested parties with the aim to transform the lives of millions across the UK. The plan includes a new funding to support people with disabilities looking to be elected to public office, guidance for local authorities on creating accessible playgrounds, a group to help educate businesses on the legal rights of assistance dog owners, and more. You can read more about this plan on the gov.uk website. https://lnkd.in/ecAvr_KC Image Description: A black background with white text with a pink dot on the question mark. Disability Pride Day 7 #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabledAndProud #DisabilityAwareness If you are my ally in the fight for disability rights & awareness, here are 4 tips on how you can make a difference... - Fully understand that Disability is not a dirty word - Someone can have a visible disability and/or a non visible disability. I have both🥰 - Learn with me about Disability History including about rights, trailblazers and the laws in your country(countries) - Support those who are disabled (friends, family, peers, colleagues, artists, singers, authors, athletes and so on) - If you are unsure what, where, why, when and how just ask

The world wasn’t built with people with disabilities in mind, and because of that, the world we live in is inherently ableist. Ableism is the discrimination against people with disabilities based on the belief that typical abilities are superior. One way to take an active part in normalizing disabilities is committing to being a disability ally and learning to recognize ableism when you see it and how to take actions to call it out. Some examples of ableism include: - Lack of compliance with ADA laws - Assuming someone with disabilities wants to be “fixed” - Buildings without braille on signs Join us in committing to being a disability ally during Disability Pride Month and beyond! . . . #DisabilityPride #DisabilityPrideMonth #HealthcareForAll #CommunityHealthCenter #CommunityResources #CommunityHealth #AffordableHealthcare #HealthcareSolutions #CHCSno

Today is the 34th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. I often hear "the ADA would never be passed today." This is unfortunately true. Instead of seeing bipartisan efforts to expand disability rights, we've seen efforts to roll back the ADA, from attempts to gut the ADA through the court system to legislation like HR 620, the ADA Education and Reform Act, which passed the House of Representatives in 2018 with the support of Republicans and some Democrats. We need more disabled progressives who are working to expand disability rights as candidates, elected officials, and campaign staff, which is why Neal Carter and I co-founded Disability Victory last year. Although the ADA passed 34 years ago and has been critically important to securing our civil rights, it wasn't a magic wand. Disabled people face ableism and inaccessibility on the campaign trail and in the political arena. We are working to dismantle these barriers to empower more disabled people to lead. Calling all disabled progressives and allies: visit our newly revamped resources page to access our ever-growing library of accessible trainings and best practices at https://lnkd.in/eCxbqNmG. Please consider supporting our work! As a small organization that is still working to become sustainable while prioritizing accessibility, every single dollar makes a difference: https://lnkd.in/eqQdEKMy #DisabilityPrideMonth #ADA #Accessibility

National Disability Independence Day occurs every year on July 26, commemorating the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which protects people with disabilities from discrimination of all kinds. In the disability community, able-bodied people are referred to as “temporarily able-bodied” as a reminder that a disability can occur to anyone and anytime– especially later on in life. GLP Attorneys is proud to support clients with disabilities and advocate for their rights. On National Disability Independence Day, we encourage you to learn more about ADA and how you can break stigmas and barriers within your community.
