Have you ever been bothered by the absence of proactive individuals driving change in the world? So did our founder, Peter Abegunde. Driven by a passion to cultivate a mindset of change among African youths, the World Changemakers Institute was born. In his own words, “The program was born out of the issues I faced personally as an 100L student. I was clueless about my career path; mentorship was lacking; I had little or no basic career skills; I knew nothing about capacity building, social impact and nation building. I was all on my own navigating Iife.   And when I see first and second year undergraduates go through this same thing, it breaks my heart. First and second year undergraduates in Nigeria must get it right, and they must get it early enough. This burden metamorphosised into the Institute.” Africa has a youthful population that should be well utilised in bringing growth and development to the continent. And this is our drive, to nurture the next generation of African changemakers, by equipping the youths with the change mindset and career skills and connecting them to global opportunities. The future looks challenging for African graduates. Addressing the significant unemployment crisis on the continent requires a strong coalition between academia and the private sector within the social innovation space. By 2030, 375 million youth will enter the Africa job market & will drive the African workforce by 1 billion, the world's largest. Currently, 10-12 million young Africans enter the labor market yearly, but only 3 million formal jobs are available. Urgent action is needed and creating opportunities for entrepreneurship is critical in closing the youth uneployment gap

Keep Your Hopes Alive 🌟 One year ago today, I took a bold step into the unknown as I joined Elevate Cote D'Ivoire, a nonprofit that is doing something truly revolutionary, creating wealth through sustainable employment and education for talented Ivorians and Africans. I am proud to say I was privileged to be the first Nigerian in Nigeria to be recruited into this incredible company after completing an intensive three-month training program with the best trainers I could ever imagine. This was at a time when I was experiencing my toughest moments 😔 The transformation was unbelievable! Before the training, I thought I was operating at 20% capacity, but by the end, I soared to 99% and I’m not even exaggerating. 😄 I was equipped with skills, confidence, and a mindset that elevated me not only in my career but also in how I viewed myself. At Elevate Cote D'Ivoire, I discovered something beautiful: a mission that goes beyond simply providing jobs. They are empowering individuals, like myself, with sustainable futures, creating ripple effects in families and communities. This journey has been nothing short of amazing. 🌍 Insights from the Third Master Class of the Africa SDGs Mentorship Programme🌍 I'm excited to share my key takeaways from the third master class training for the SDG Africa Mentorship Programme, held on 25th May 2024 facilitated by Emmanuel Ola-Olowoyo . This session was an impactful dive into the importance and implementation of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in both local and international contexts. Key Learnings: 1. UN 17 SDGs: The session emphasized the critical importance of the UN 17 SDGs and how they serve as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all by 2030. 2. Roles and Responsibilities: The facilitator provided an in-depth analysis of the roles individuals and organizations play in achieving these goals. A thought-provoking question was asked: “What activity are you doing to ensure the achievement of the above?” 3. Educational Integration: Teachers were encouraged to incorporate the SDGs into their curriculum, aligning with the Agenda 2030 to inspire and educate the next generation on sustainable practices and global citizenship. One statement that stood out to me was: “Africa’s future lies in our hands, and through the SDGs, we have a blueprint to achieve sustainable development and prosperity.” This underscores the importance of collective effort and strategic planning in achieving our goals. Participating in this programme reinforces my commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals across our continent. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow with such a dedicated community of changemakers. Talking about SDGs and Sustainability... I was privileged to attend the ongoing mentorship program by AIIDEV Africa, series three, under the guidance of Adeola Adelugba and Emmanuel Ola-Olowoyo which focused mainly on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. The central theme of the Workshop series revolved around the 17 SDGs. These global goals address critical challenges such as climate change, poverty, education, and health. By focusing on the SDGs, AIIDEV Africa emphasizes the importance of aligning individual efforts with broader global objectives. I was able to gain a deeper understanding of how their work contributes to a sustainable future. As a participant, I believe I have gained invaluable knowledge to take action and contribute meaningfully to achieving the SDGs. The success of SDGs and Africa Agenda 2063 requires a collaborative approach, where participants learn from each other and collectively work towards the SDGs. The initiative will foster a sense of shared responsibility and impact. I strongly believe this mentorship program plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of leaders. By nurturing young professionals, the initiative ensures we are well-equipped to drive positive change in their communities. Through workshops, discussions, and community engagement, I, as a youth, young professional, and participant, not only gain knowledge but also develop leadership skills, fostering a network of like-minded individuals committed to achieving the SDGs.

Sustainability. Such a multifaceted domain. Let's walk the talk then. In my continued pursuit of knowledge in the Sustainability and Development sector, It was an honor and privilege to attend the fourth series by AIIDEV Africa. This session was majorly focused on Design thinking and innovation, particularly in the context of circular design thinking, which is critical for creating sustainable solutions that are economically viable and environmentally friendly. A few Takeaways I do believe you too, would love to learn... Circular Economy: It’s a system that aims to eliminate waste and promote the continual use of resources. Circular design thinking supports this by encouraging the creation of products and systems that are restorative and regenerative by design. Design Principles: Circular design thinking involves principles some being; designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. Innovation Approach: Design thinking is an innovation approach that helps organizations solve complex problems. Holistic Perspective: Circular design thinking requires a holistic view that considers environmental, economic, and social dimensions, ensuring that solutions are sustainable and beneficial across multiple domains These highlight the importance of integrating circular design thinking into the innovation process to create solutions that are both creative, effective and sustainable for the long term. It is within context that I do believe, to achieve sustainability, we all need to rise up, arms in arms, to fight together, for a more better and resilient environment.
