Yesterday was #WorldCancerDay, a moment to reflect on the global impact of cancer. Did you know that 1 in 5 people with cancer have a rare cancer? Rare cancers make up about 25–30% of all cancer diagnoses and 25% of cancer-related deaths.
Despite their prevalence, rare cancers face a significant challenge - a lack of basic biological and clinical knowledge. This knowledge gap often translates into suboptimal clinical outcomes for patients. On average, individuals with rare cancers have a 5-year relative survival rate of 47%, compared to 65% for those with more common cancers (Gatta et al., 2011).
It's crucial to raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by those with rare cancers. Advocacy, research, and support can bridge the gaps in understanding and improve outcomes for these patients. We will try our best to help those communications especially as I have a personal family conneciton to these rare cancers!
It's time to join the global movement, raise your voice, and stand in solidarity against cancer. Together, we'll make a powerful impact in the fight for a healthier world. Are you ready to be part of something incredible? 💙🌍 #WorldCancerDay #CloseTheCareGap
Wishing you a successful event!
