Over on our Instagram, we’ve been sharing snapshots of our recently completed Davis build, AKA the Copper Pavilion. This was a beautiful, fulfilling yet challenging design project, as we had to deal with a range of unique variables. I’m intrigued by the behind-the-scenes design process myself, so I thought I’d share a few of our challenges with you, and our learnings from overcoming them. 1️⃣ The client wanted no balustrades throughout the house, which is a big ask when dealing with stairs, walkways, and a pool! To bring this vision to life, we had to think laterally about the design, and we ended up resorting to some creative solutions to itegrate them into the structure. 2️⃣ To achieve our desired patina and colour scheme, the copper we used had to be perfectly oxidised – which metalworkers will know doesn’t just happen overnight. This was such a critical part of the overall design, so we ended up working with a local supplier to accelerate the ageing process, packing 20+ years worth of moisture exposure into just months. 3️⃣ Our biggest takeaway: Ask the right questions, find the right people, and you can make magic happen. Throughout this process, we definitely encountered situations we never had before – but we managed to deliver exactly what the client wanted despite these unique requests. We wouldn't have been able to do it without relying on some great suppliers and utilising the expertise of the entire Blur team. A simple pen sketch- St chads Cathedral Shrewsbury; A place where I spent my adolence singing Amazing Grace with total tonedeath. St Chad's however has always been a unique church because it is round. This unique design makes everybody feel close to the centre of the church and a feeling of togetherness, family and unity. Whilst you'll never know for sure the reasoning behind the architecture, what we do know is what turns a good design into a great one aren't merely aesthetic choices; they're emotional ones – every element of design has the potential to tap into specific emotion. Architecture is not simply about constructing buildings; it is about creating spaces that evoke emotions, tell stories, and leave a lasting impact on those who experience them. Architecture is not just about bricks and mortar- Just as Jewellery isn’t just gold and diamonds. It is about dreams and feelings, memories and aspirations. Architectural designers are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible, exploring new materials, technologies, and construction methods to create buildings that are eco-friendly, sustainable, and responsive to the changing needs of society. Us designers, from different practices too, can look to architecture as a source of inspiration to break free from conventions, take risks, and chart new and uncharted territories in our own creative practices.

🎥 Unveiling the Mystery: Interlocking or Scissor Staircases 🌀 Ever come across a staircase that appears to defy the laws of conventional design, leaving you scratching your head? 🤔 Allow me to introduce you to the fascinating world of interlocking or scissor staircases! In this viral video, I showcase a staircase that may initially seem like a construction oversight, but in reality, it's a brilliant display of architectural ingenuity. Picture this: two staircases ingeniously interlocked within the footprint of one, running parallel to each other. The result? A visually captivating and space-saving solution that's as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. Watch as I demystify this through a detailed model, offering a glimpse into the innovative thinking behind these remarkable staircases. I help clients acquire lighting, fans and controls for high-end projects. I post about architectural lighting and operating a business.
Great lighting design shows off the architecture and intended subject and doesn't get in the way. Some light fixtures are beautiful and worthy of being displayed, but the end goal is to provide proper illumination. That usually means drawing less attention to the light source and draw more attention to the subject. Sometimes ego gets in the way. Focus on the big picture. #LightingDesign #ArchitecturalLighting #Creativity #InteriorDesign #RGB #LightingTips

Circles or spaces? You decide. This design is a geometric pattern consisting of quarter-circle shapes arranged in a grid to create an optical illusion. The quater-circles in each cell can be seen as either parts of larger circles or as empty spaces between them. The concept aimed to create a dynamic and intriguing visual effect that challenges the viewer's perception and interpretation. This kind of design is related to geometry in architecture, which is the use of shapes, patterns, symmetries, and proportions derived from geometry to create buildings that are structurally sound and visually impactful. For example:The design can be applied to the facade of a building, creating a dynamic and contrasting appearance that changes depending on the angle and distance of the viewer. #architecture #graphicdesign #lookingforajob #creativity #tessellations #patterndesign #designer #design #designexcellence
