“If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” | Yogi Berra   I am thrilled to announce my new role as a full-time Junior Business Development Expert at IMPETUS Capital, a strategic step of my long-term plan to explore and contribute to Europe’s dynamic start-up ecosystem. 🌍   During the following months, I would be actively engaged with:   🎯 Building, analyzing, and maintaining a comprehensive database for an investment funnel, used for start-up scouting. 🦄 Conducting extensive research on the neighboring countries’ start-up ecosystem markets, leading to innovative market entry strategies. 📋 Supporting the organization of an international start-up pitching event in the space, commerce, and mobility sectors. 🚀 Developing extensive knowledge of Europe’s Space Tech industry.   During this internship, I aim to deepen my understanding of the entire start-up investment process, from market analysis and deal sourcing to pitch deck evaluation and due diligence. In the past few weeks, I've delved deep into the world of startup valuation - a fascinating topic that's crucial for understanding a company's true worth. Here are some key takeaways I've gained: 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀: There's no one-size-fits-all approach to valuing a startup. I explored different methods like DCF (Discounted Cash Flow) and multiples-based valuation, each with its strengths and considerations. 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Learned about different types of valuations - pre-money, post-money - and how they impact fundraising rounds and investor dilution. It's all about understanding the company's stage and future potential. I was on the fence about sharing this, but here it goes During a recorded training call with the girls, I captured this moment. Hearing Jenny's words was touching💖 My career has been anything but straightforward since I realised my 'go to uni, get a degree, get a masters, be an Economist' was not it 🎓➡️❌... I've dabbled in various roles, gradually learning what doesn't work for me. It's been a journey of discovering what I'm not suited for, as much as what I am 🔍🛤. In university, I immersed myself in a bunch of internships, trying to find my passion. I dove into the startup world, embracing the chaos without spending a complete year in a traditional role 🫣 I'm still learning, and I'm grateful to be partners with some of the best entrepreneurs in this space... People like Ricky Ollivierre (Neo) 🦅 and Lamar E. blew/keep blowing my mind open to what's possible when it comes to the value one can bring to the table, and I feel incredibly grateful to get to work with, and learn from them every day 🌟 When it comes to navigating careers - I meet many looking to get into VC, the career path isn't as clear as others like Investment Banking 🤔 Venture Studios remain a little-known path, a gem yet to be fully discovered. Our ability to transform the startup ecosystem is hugeee 💎 I'm glad that sharing the Venture Studio model to aspiring professionals is opening their eyes to seeing what else is out there in the startup space... I recently wrapped up my internship at Plug and Play Tech Center and what an incredible journey it has been! Working in the LA office with a small, close-knit team allowed me to wear many different hats—something I was really looking forward to and thoroughly enjoyed. I remember how badly I wanted an internship in this space, and it wasn’t easy. It was hard—really hard—but I kept pushing forward. I believe in the saying, "Keep knocking the door, something will open." I finally got this opportunity at the very end of my 1st year of MBA, and I am genuinely glad I didn’t give up! For those of you still searching for what you want—just don’t give up. Keep going. A few lessons I learned along the way: •Understanding Venture Capital: In VC, a lot of the work revolves around selling ideas and conducting in-depth research. Whether it’s pitching ideas to investors, evaluating startups, or conducting due diligence, research is critical. You need to understand markets, trends, and founders deeply. •Networking is Everything: VC is truly about connections. Every deal, opportunity, and investment comes through relationships. Building authentic connections is key, and it’s not just about networking for the sake of it—everything is aligned to drive growth, innovation, and opportunity in this space. •Authenticity is Essential: In venture capital, being authentic isn’t just something to mention in interviews—it’s crucial to finding the right fit. When you’re truly yourself, it becomes clear whether a VC firm’s values, culture, and vision align with your own. Authenticity helps build genuine relationships with entrepreneurs and investors, and it also guides you in choosing firms or startups that resonate with your passions and long-term goals. Now, I’m excited to start my exchange semester at the University of St.Gallen, exploring Switzerland during the week and the rest of Europe on the weekends!
