Proportioning is part of the language of classical architecture. Essentially, every element in a building, large or small, should be proportional to each other. . This is a design for one of our current projects for a pavilion in the grounds of a country estate and it is an example of designing with a classical proportioning system that forms the basis of a design system that dates back to antiquity. You might be able to see the faint pencil working-out lines that Jonathan used to set the elevations up. . #handdrawing #watercolour #classicalpavilion #gardenbuildings #neoclassicalarchitect #neoclassicalarchitecture #artinarchitecture #architecturalpainting #britisharchitect #architect #classicalarchitect #newclassical #classicaldesign #classicalarchitecture ##statelandscaping #gardenfolly #countryhouselandscape #countryhousegarden #landscapearchitecture #classicalorders #classicalproportions

🔲 As pictured by #UTForum contributor skycandy, the three towers of Maple House in Toronto's Canary District have much to recommend them architecturally, with strong geometries in their various components. With the shorter towers in front designed by COBE Architects and the taller tower dominating the background designed by architects—Alliance, the two designs are strikingly different — scalloped bays framing large windows vs tall windows slotted in among alternately angled concrete brise soleils — but the white-to-black grayscale unifies the towers and makes for a strikingly abstract composition. https://lnkd.in/eNcN39Xz #Toronto #architecture #urbanplanning

Our studio design process is varied and flexible for each project we work on. As every project, and every client has a different set of requirements and preferences, we make sure that we have the in-house skills to suit all situations. . Whilst there is a definite passion for hand drawings and watercolours in our team, we also enjoy presenting designs using computer models and imagery as they bring a whole new perspective to the designs. What do you think? . Pictured is a design for a classical pavilion on one of our current projects, the watercolour elevation of which we shared a couple of weeks ago. . #classicalpavilion #gardenbuildings #neoclassicalarchitect #neoclassicalarchitecture #newclassical #stonedesign #designedinstone #brickarchitecture #brickdesign #pavilion #classicalbuilding #classicaldesign #classicalarchitecture #newbuildhome #newhomedesign #gardenbuilding #artinarchitecture #britisharchitect #architect #classicalarchitect #estatelandscaping #gardenfolly #countryhouselandscape #countryhousegarden #landscapearchitecture #classicalorders #classicalproportions #stonedesign #designedinstone #brickarchitecture #brickdesign

What is a good residential ceiling hieght vis à vie the golden mean? Bernardo Vittone's unique approach to determining residential ceiling height in architecture, with a focus on harmonic proportions and geometrically calculated means, offers a fresh perspective in the field. Contrasting traditional principles, Vittone's method, possibly influenced by the golden ratio, showcases a blend of complexity and aesthetic appeal, often leading to higher ceiling values. This approach bridges the gap between Scamozzi and Palladio's architectural ideologies. In comparison, principles by architects like Palladio emphasize straightforward ratios, while architects like Durand prioritize utility and societal norms, resulting in simpler and standardized proportions. Vittone's intricate approach, emphasizing aesthetics, highlights the diversity of perspectives within architectural theory and practice. #Architecture #Design #ArchitecturalTheory #RoomDesign #CeilingHeight

Blob Architecture, also known as blobitecture or blobism, is an architectural style that emerged in the 1990s. This movement is characterized by the use of organic and rounded shapes, often resembling amoebas or droplets. The term “blobitecture” was coined by architect Greg Lynn in 1995 during his experiments with digital design software. The advent of computer-aided design (CAD) allowed architects to create complex 2D and 3D models, inspiring new ways of thinking about architecture. Blobitecture celebrates modern technology and seeks to harmoniously connect interior spaces with the exterior environment. Notable examples of blobitecture include the Sage Gateshead, a glass building designed by Norman Foster, which exemplifies the style with its organic and futuristic shape. Another prominent example is the Metropol Parasol in Seville, designed by J. Mayer H architects, featuring a mushroom-like shape. Blobitecture has evolved since its inception and continues to be a growing architectural category, challenging traditional conventions and exploring new possibilities in architectural design. #BlobArchitecture #Blobitecture #Blobism #OrganicShapes #ModernArchitecture #CADDesign #GregLynn #SageGateshead #MetropolParasol #FuturisticDesign #ArchitecturalInnovation #DigitalDesign #AdvancedConstruction #ArchitecturalStyle

When I SEE architecture, I see ART. I see primary COLORS side by side, LINES and SHAPES, light and shadows, and REFLECTIONS in windows. I see the connection between sky and tall buildings, the CONNECTION between the designers and architects and the people whose offices or dwellings reside within. When I see ARchiTecture, I see art. What do you see??? #architecture #architecturalappreciation #minimalistic #architecturalphotography

Exploring the Pioneers of Modern Architecture: Wahid, Calatrava, Hadid In the realm of modern architecture, three visionaries stand out for their unique yet harmonious approaches: Tarek Wahid, Santiago Calatrava, and Zaha Hadid. Each of these architects has redefined our urban landscapes, blending organic forms with futuristic designs. 🌿 **Tarek Wahid** is known for his eco-conscious designs that seamlessly integrate natural elements like waterfalls and greenery into modern structures. His use of tinted glass and marble is a testament to his innovative approach to privacy and transparency. 🌉 **Santiago Calatrava** combines art with engineering to create dynamic, bio-inspired structures. His designs are characterized by skeletal structures and moving elements, reflecting a deep interest in the mobility of forms. 🏗️ **Zaha Hadid**, the queen of neofuturism, pushed the envelope with her exploration of non-linear geometries. Her fluid and bold forms have become iconic in urban skylines around the world. Their commitment to sustainability, cultural resonance, and innovative design not only sets them apart in the field of architecture but also serves as a beacon of inspiration for future architects. As we envision the future of urban spaces, the work of these architects encourages us to think beyond the conventional, crafting buildings that are not just structures but experiences. **#Architecture #Innovation #DesignThinking #SustainableDesign #UrbanPlanning**

During my 12 years in the Szeged Cathedral project by Váncza Művek, I have learned a lot about the environmental context, the importance of local history, the role of an interdisciplinary design approach, spatial composition, perspective, scale, material, surface. Throughout the design process and the various phases of construction, my approach to architecture has continued to expand and evolve. As we progressed from Phase 1 to the completion of Phase 3, we approached the project with humility, a broad vision and meticulous attention to detail. It was a journey of intense effort and careful concept development to deliver a coherent and our thoughtful architectural solution. https://lnkd.in/eFFfk8iz #architecture #interiordesign #furnituredesign #renovate #remodeling #expansion #interdisciplinarity #heritage #sustainability

🏰 Unlocking the Secrets of Gothic Architecture As I explored the architectural intricacies of a majestic Gothic cathedral, the marvels of medieval engineering unfolded before my eyes. The detailed sketches of its structural elements—pointed arches, flying buttresses, and ribbed vaulting—revealed the genius behind these towering edifices designed to inspire awe and bring celestial light into their vast interiors. Each feature, from the soaring clerestory to the practical gargoyles, tells a story of innovation, functionality, and artistic vision. These cathedrals were not just built to last; they were crafted to elevate the human experience, blending spiritual significance with groundbreaking architectural techniques. This experience reminds us that the principles of design and architecture transcend time, continuing to inspire and challenge us to integrate beauty with utility in our creations. #Architecture #GothicArchitecture #EngineeringMarvels #MedievalArchitecture #DesignInnovation #ArchitecturalHeritage #HistoricStructures
