Could #ChatGPT 3.5 be capable of writing the discussion/conclusion of a #researchpaper? 🤔
To find it out, I based my mini experiment on the introduction ChatGPT had generated for me one week ago. Again, I aimed at the ‘moves’ it would apply to organize the ideas in the text since my purpose would be descriptive and linguistic. I was interested in detecting whether it would apply the macro and microstructural organization identified by Peacock’s model (2002) based on Dudley-Evans’ (1994).
So…what happened? 😶
Although the result respected the organization I was looking for, it showed certain limitations unlike the introduction. For example, ChatGPT 3.5 could not return significant findings, graphs, or data since such input had not been provided previously. As a result, the lack of data weakened the microstructure of the concluding section of the text: it did not provide limitations about the research and recommendations for future works.
I can infer that ChatGPT 3.5 will be capable of writing a discussion/conclusion for a research paper only if given enough data to do so. Otherwise, it will not follow the ‘moves’ expected on each one of the sections of the discussion. Our work and research on Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT4 illuminated the gap between their enthusiastic promotion and the reality of their impacts on healthcare. While social media and literature praise ChatGPT4’s medical examination performance and diagnostic capabilities, we challenge the notion that LLMs are ready for widespread clinical use.
Despite their advanced capabilities, LLMs like ChatGPT4 lack true human intelligence and empathy, often leading to overestimation of their abilities and capacity to care. For example, ChatGPT4’s performance on the US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) convinced many enthusiasts that it can diagnose illnesses and craft treatment plans. While impressive, our tests and investigations demonstrated that passing the USMLE does not imply that ChatGPT4 can reliably evaluate patients, select diagnostic procedures, interpret results, and define appropriate treatment strategies.
We are not suggesting that #doctors and administrators should ignore these remarkable technologies. On the contrary, we urge #clinicians, managers, and executives to engage and help lead their integration into the practice and business of #medicine. Resisting inevitable technological progress and innovation will leave technologists to shape the industry’s future landscape.

Quite often in order to use certain protocols and analysis from published papers one needs to look into the repositories of the research groups and quite often find ....uncommented code 🤷♀️
Now the basic comments can easily be added by models such as ChatGPT....and saving a few hours and a headache to the poor researcher wanting to understand the code to use it 😂
