🌍 Just wrapped up an inspiring experience at the IMPACT FESTIVAL, where innovators and changemakers gathered to accelerate sustainable transformation! 🚀 A few of our key takeaways: 🔹 Corporate Sustainability Reporting: Many start-ups are zeroing in on sustainability reporting, which not only meets regulatory needs but also helps companies pinpoint areas for improvement, gaining a long-term competitive edge. At the Impact Festival Dinner hosted by Commerzbank AG, this was a major theme, with impressive real-world examples shared from their client network. 🔹 Decarbonizing the Building Sector: With its complexity and cost, the building sector poses a significant decarbonization challenge. Innovative start-ups are working to simplify solutions, supporting customers in managing, financing, and implementing these critical measures—a sector full of exciting potential! 🔹 Tech for Climate Action: Meeting founders driven to solve climate challenges was a highlight. From advancements in storage, biodiversity, and carbon storage in biomaterials to decarbonizing industrial processes and financing renewable projects, it was incredible to see so much cutting-edge tech in one place. 🔹 Catching Up with Klimate.co: A pleasure to reconnect with our portfolio company Klimate.co and Erik Wihlborg and his team, who are making strides in end-to-end carbon removal strategies for businesses. It was fun to share the stage with these brilliant minds like Ghazal Aakel , Dr. Frank Esselmann, Tim Schade and Eric Jochum at our "Spotlight on Green IT - Treiber für Zukunftsfähigkeit" roadshow in Köln! It’s inspiring to see how simple it can be to adopt sustainable practices in IT, where sometimes even a small change in code or practice can make a huge impact. #metafinanz presented a roadmap that guides you towards greener IT, showing that sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated or costly. In my part, I focused on how to get started, assess where you currently stand, and measure your progress on the journey to greener IT. It's 2024... so, how are we doing? The milestone year of 2030 for sustainability agendas as championed by the United Nations Global Impact’s “Agenda 2030” is a mere 6 years away. Do a quick search on “2030 sustainability goals” and you will see many programs and missions set for transitioning to a net-zero world… and some stakes extended to 2035 and beyond. Scalability and speed have been the challenge—some Goliaths of commerce say—but the Davids are blazing us forward. Thanks to Deniz Kent, PhD and the soon-to-launch Prolific Machines and the infrastructure startups that @Arne Morteani and Kiko Ventures support; Air Protein turning air into proteins we can eat; Made of Air's waste engineered biochar based materials; Twelve's force to replace anything made from oil to come from air instead; and Novoloop's Lifecycling™ program to create new materials from non-recyclable plastics and so many others that are MAKING—not pledging or just promising—progress towards net-zero realities.
