We're excited to share our new messaging guide... Upgrading Industry: Making the case for a worker-led transition [https://bit.ly/3SpUcRC] Industrial change is in the crosshairs of a culture war over climate, one which seeks to pit jobs or industry against climate. As progressive movements, climate campaigners and trade unions, we need to articulate a vision for a safe climate future that also includes thriving industry and good jobs. Our messaging guide seeks to do that. Key principles: 1) Lead with the argument that upgrading industry will create a better world for the next generation - and the generation after that. 2) Beware protection framing (e.g. ‘save X industry’). Paint a picture of important industries with the potential to thrive. 3) Talk about ‘upgrading’ or ‘future-proofing’, not ‘decarbonising’ or ‘transitioning’. 4) Highlight jeopardy. If we do not invest, jobs and skills will go elsewhere, benefitting other countries and communities. 5) Be clear this has to be a collaboration. Spell out the different roles of government, unions and businesses. This guide incorporates the findings from the research with KSBR Brand Futures into Red Wall Waverers. It includes key principles, a core story, stats that tell a story, do say/don't say and common questions and responses. It is a live doc which will add to as and when news stories hit.

With the #2024elections well under way, it is time to hit the road to help industry #publicaffairs professionals understand how the campaign debate will shape and impact their policy and business interests.
