I appreciate the response from everyone who has reached out regarding these openings. So far, I’ve received 60ish inquiries, and I’m doing my best to respond to each one. No doubt it’s frustrating to express interest in a job and not hear back. In the past, we haven’t always done a great job with that, but I’m committed to doing better. However, if you emailed a resume without a subject line and a blank message, you won’t be getting a response. And with all due respect, if you commented on the post with “interested,” I can tell you we’re not interested. For those we won’t be moving forward with, I tried to provide some context as to why. I noticed a few common themes that could have been avoided if I had been clearer in my original post. I should have specified the non-negotiable criteria for these positions. First, you must have previous construction experience as a contractor. Commercial GC, heavy industrial, specialty trades, pipelines, facilities, etc. The type of construction experience isn’t as important as having prior experience, preferably on-site. Additionally, I received many inspection resumes. While we work with many outstanding inspectors, we want to see recent (within the last year or two) experience working as a contractor. It’s been over 15 years since I last applied for a traditional W-2 job, so I can’t fully relate to the job hunt experience. However, I do know what it’s like to sell our company’s services to a potential client. If I had to find a new job tomorrow, I’d take the exact same approach, and I can tell you our success rate from mass emailing out a company brochure, asking to be added to bid lists, is close to zero. Do your research and tailor your inquiry to your target. Be clear and concise about the value you bring. I can tell you the bar is set very low and it doesn’t take much effort to stand out from the crowd.
I'm coming out of LinkedIn retirement to put out the call for a few driven, high-energy individuals to join our OKC-based project management team. We have immediate openings for Project Coordinators, Project Managers, and Estimators across all service lines - pipeline, facilities, integrity, and municipal construction. We like recruiting from the commercial construction world, so if that’s where you are and you 1) want something a bit more fast-paced, 2) demand excellence from yourself and your teammates, and 3) are burned out on RFIs and submittals, then we'd like to hear from you. Our ideal candidate is local or willing to relocate, has several years of on-site project management experience – bonus points if it's with a specialty trade contractor or involves managing a lot of self-performed work. Prior oil & gas construction experience isn't necessary; your skills are adaptable and we’ll get you up to speed quickly as long as you're willing to put in the work. (I'm also confident that our performance-based comp package offers much more upside than what you'll find in both the commercial world and among our industry peers.) If this sounds like an opportunity you're interested in, shoot me an e-mail at mmcgee (at) machenergyllc (dot) com Mach Energy Services LLC
