The Indian #government has proposed new guidelines to expedite the approval process for electricity connections for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The aim is to reduce the approval time in #metropolitan areas from seven days to three days, in municipal areas from 15 days to seven days, and in rural areas from 30 days to 15 days. Additionally, the tariff for supplying electricity to EV charging stations is proposed to remain unchanged, with a single part tariff not exceeding the "average cost of supply" until March 31, 2026. The guidelines suggest that the cost of supply during solar hours should be 0.7 times the average cost of supply, and 1.3 times during non-solar hours. The density and distance requirements between charging stations, proposing that at least one charging station should be available within a 1 km x 1 km grid in urban areas by the fiscal year 2030, and one charging station should be set up every 20 km on both sides of highways and roads. Separate metering arrangements are to be made for EV charging stations to accurately record and bill consumption according to the applicable tariff. The public is invited to submit their views on the draft guidelines within 30 days. My corporate report on Luminous Power published in the recent edition of Business India... The company which was formed around 1990 has come a long way. It has a dominating presence especially in residential inverter and battery segments and under the stewardship of French automation giant Schneider which acquired it from Indian promoters in the last decade, it seems to have scaled up considerably. Recently, it unveiled a greenfield solar panel manufacturing plant at Rudrapur, Uttrakhand which underlines its intention to tap the rapid solarisation drive expected to unfold in the country soon. Rooftop solar installation especially in the residential segment has not done well in the past but there are indications that if the current government comes back in power, they will take it up quite aggressively. Meanwhile, the plant at Rudrapur is the first solar panel manufacturing unit of Schneider in the world.
