industriAll Europe keen to see a more social ‘human-centric’ approach to sustainable industrial & technology policies… great to see this #Industry5.0 Community of Practice get going

🎉 Exciting to launch the Industry 5.0 Community of Practice at the European Commission in Brussels! I feel happy and honoured to be part of such a smart and strong steering board and can't wait to see what will be created together in the Community of Practice to transition into Industry 5.0 🌟 For a sustainable, resilient, and human-centric industry 💚 Considering the demographic change, climate crisis, and geopolitical threats that Europe is experiencing right now, my main takeaways and food for thoughts are: 💭 Europe needs to be leading in innovation to stay competitive. 💭 We need to enable innovation by putting dedication to skill development (from employees, employers, and policymakers side). 💭 We need to create a business case for human-centricity and sustainability and change the mindset of companies. And how do we measure success in a new environment? 💭 Europe stands for democracy - can we create industrial democracy where people collaborate on a common agenda? Thanks to the amazing Industry 5.0 team at the European Commission led by Peter Dröll, Zuzana Dutkova, Laura Roman, Lars De Nul, Sean O'Reagain. Special thanks to the inspiring panelists Kirsten Dunlop, Judith Kirton-Darling, Judith Ay, and Christian Ehler. I learned a lot!

Thrilled and honored to be part of the TRA2024, participating in the dialogue about “Sustainable Mobility of People and Goods”. I will try to give an insight of the terrirorial context (and challenge) of sustainable maritime transportation and its distinctive role for islands supply, workers commuting and overall people’s mobility. It’s interesting to discuss about decarbonization of vessels, it’s also interesting to discuss about innovation in maritime, it’s getting even more interesting when you debate for spatial data and evidence. But the most challenging (and interesting by far…) is to define public policy solutions for the islands, combining all the above. IFAT Munich 2024 has started! 🎉 The world’s leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials was officially opened today by Steffi Lemke (Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection) and Thorsten Glauber (Bavarian State Minister for Environment and Consumer Protection). The main theme of this year's fair is "Adapting to the consequences of climate change". In his video message, Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz underlined the political importance of climate resilience and circular economy as well as the market relevance of the industry. He emphasized the need for a more circular economy as a response to current issues such as supply chain stability, de-risking and raw material security, and promised to create good conditions for the industry's continued growth. We would like to extend a warm welcome to all visitors and exhibitors. A few days ago, together with Katarzyna Pamuła-Wróbel, I had the pleasure of visiting Berlin and representing Olesiński i Wspólnicy at the conference Future Battery Forum🔋 It was a great opportunity to hear and talk to representatives of the major European players operating in the battery industry. It is definitely one of the most relevant events related to the low carbon economy; it is must have to be there. Some quick thoughts: - from a state aid perspective, of course, the most important thread is subsidies for the low-carbon industry and in this context also - energy prices; - competition, catching up in Europe with the USA and China, is one of the leading themes of the discussion / the need to come up with new solutions (one step ahead); - a lot of topics related to AI, recycling and circular battery value chains + increasingly important - raw materials economy (CRM ACT); - last but not least - from a Polish perspective - the marginal number of Polish companies / institutions is puzzling (perhaps even little bit worrying). Hopefully this changes in the years to come. 💪

I’m looking forward to speaking at #RIEurope2024 tomorrow, sharing thoughts on how investors can make a start on nature, based on our own experience at Scottish Widows, including: 1. Understand exposure to nature related dependencies and impacts in your investment portfolio 2. Develop engagement priorities based on the outcomes of that analysis 3. Explore nature related investment opportunities across different asset classes (suitable for pension funds…) 4. Assess what meaningful nature related data is available from data providers and asset managers - and what you are going to do with it (action beyond reporting) 5. Look at tangible sub-themes such as water, waste and deforestation which may be easier to start with than a complex biodiversity footprint

Join us for our first ever event in Washington D.C.!   Upon invitation of EU Trade and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), we will host our session "Accelerating the scale-up of technologies in a transatlantic context – Thermal energy storage and industry" on January 31st. The event is part of the Transatlantic Initiative on Sustainable Trade (TIST).   High-temperature heat (>100°C) is one essential input for many hard-to-abate industries such as steel, cement, glass, and metals. Hence, the decarbonization of such processes must be put on the agenda of policy-makers and innovators. During this session, we will discuss the current state of Thermal Energy Storage (TES) for the industry in both the EU and the US, the existing research programmes or joint demonstration projects that can be leveraged to encourage rapid scale-up, the regulatory barriers that need to be removed to facilitate the cross-border dissemination of technologies, and the financing mechanisms and incentives that can be put in place to attract private investment and public funding for scaling up thermal energy storage on both sides of the Atlantic.   The Transatlantic Initiative on Sustainable Trade (TIST) aims to allow the transatlantic stakeholder community to provide input on how it can promote a more integrated and resilient transatlantic marketplace that will help accelerate the transition to a climate-neutral and more circular economy to the benefit of businesses, workers, and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic.   For more information and the registration for the event in virtual mode, please see: https://lnkd.in/dkWZPkzS Marlène Siméon Antoine Koen Peter Schniering Leonie Brand Martin Schifferings Magnolia Tovar Francesca Brunner Ingrid El Helou Pau Farrés Juliane Harlfinger #thermalenergystorage #energystorage
