May 1st is National Skilled Trades Day National Skilled Trades Day aims to raise awareness about the benefit of skilled trades jobs in the United States. Over the last 30 years or so, parents have encouraged children to attend colleges or universities after graduating from high school, neglecting to embrace the value found in skilled trades. When these students graduate from college, they are often faced with crippling debt and a job market that simply isn’t hiring. On the other hand, trades jobs often only require a certificate for employment, meaning that those looking to go into trade jobs will face little to no debt when they enter the workforce, and they can enter the workforce much sooner than their college student counterparts. Skilled trade jobs often offer excellent pay as a means to meet the demand for these jobs, as well as benefits and healthcare. #trades #Dynacast

The trades are not just a job—they are a career—and the task force’s initial efforts focused on trade professionals presenting to middle and high school students about career opportunities in the trades and the skills involved. They discussed the realities of how work in the trades has advanced to keep up with the requirements of today’s business world. Skilled trades are experiencing huge demand but have little talent to supply the market, with a need for a projected 10,000 skilled trade workers across the United States next year! I sat down with Leaf Home CEO and former GE executive Jon Bostock, to understand what is so exciting and lucrative about working in skilled trades. Here is part 1 of the interview.

Great article! Contrary to popular belief, skilled trades is a very lucrative and stable market. It is a great career path with good upward mobility. Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs) has been preaching this for years. Looks like the young folks are finally paying attention. Thanks for sharing Garrett Rice.

The idea that skilled trades jobs are "men's jobs" isn't just outdated, it's harmful. Not only does it prevent women from pursuing careers they may be passionate about, but it also closes us off from an immense pool of talent that could help us address the skilled worker shortage.
