National Irrigation Administration Advances Chico River Irrigation With Solar Power In The Philippines The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) aims to maximize the potential of the Chico River Irrigation Project through the integration of solar power, according to NIA Administrator Eduardo Guillen. The announcement was made during a news forum in Quezon City on Saturday. Administrator Guillen explained that the implementation of solar panels would allow the project to generate its own electricity, addressing the current issue of insufficient local power supply which can only support one of the six pumping stations. “Lalagyan namin ng solar panels para tayo na ho ang mag-produce ng kuryente na gagamitin,” said Guillen. He emphasized that the generated […] Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dwvQ65e7 #solarenergy #alternativeenergy #solarpv #pvsolar #photovoltaic #cleanenergy #cleantech #climatechange #nationalirrigationadministration #philippines #renewableenergy #solarenergy #solar-poweredirrigation #southeastasia

On May 6, the Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation reported on measures being taken to encourage farmers to save and use water more efficiently. The move addresses Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s earlier criticism about the process of introducing water-saving technologies being “extremely slow,” with agricultural sectors in some regions, experiencing annual losses of water of 40%. The ministry is also working to digitalize 3,500 km of irrigation canals in the Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, and Turkestan regions in the south of the country, which will improve water metering on 362 thousand hectares of irrigated land and enable a saving up to 600 million cubic meters of water annually. #Kazakhstan #WaterResources #WaterConservation This content is jointly prepared by ZWEEC Analytics Pte Ltd and ripple2wave. Solar Irrigation is Need of the Time: Pakistan's unchecked tube well expansion demands urgent action. With over 1.3 million #tubeWells, groundwater #depletion is #rampant, exacerbated by a lack of regulatory oversight. Transitioning to #solar #powered #tubewells offers a game-changing solution, #saving Rs100bn annually and #conserving 4,000MWs of electricity. This shift is crucial as #irrigation # demands surge beyond 110km3 by 2025, largely reliant on #groundwater. It's time for Pakistan to embrace solar irrigation technology for #sustainable water management and agricultural resilience. Researchers warn that while solar power has been used by thousands of farmers in Africa and Asia to pump irrigation water, it may also contribute to increased carbon emissions and aquifer degradation. It was believed that switching from electric or diesel irrigation pumps to solar ones would lower greenhouse gas emissions because irrigation pumps are projected to contribute between 2 and 7% of the country's annual emissions. #carbonemissions #aquifer #irrigation #water #emissions #solarenergy #greenhouse #gasemissions #pumps

The Terai region of Nepal, often referred to as the country’s breadbasket, is endowed with significant replenishable groundwater resources. These offer immense potential for sustainable agricultural growth, yet remain largely untapped. Through the CGIAR Initiative on NEXUS Gains, International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is exploring the potential of solarizing deep tube wells in Terai, to enhance reliable year-round irrigation and provide equitable irrigation resources to small- and medium-sized farmers. They offer reduced greenhouse gas emissions, no running costs, and can offer underprivileged farmers access to deeper and more reliable aquifers than shallow tube wells.
