Special Project Director: Building capacity across Business and Industries in Africa through FDI, Partnerships and Trade
South Africa is charting a bold path towards a future powered by over 100 GW of new generation capacity by 2050. The Integrated Resource Plan 2023, recently published, maps out diverse scenarios, including a "least cost" plan and a vision for 166 GW sourced from solar, wind, gas, and battery storage. Tackling the challenge of frequent blackouts, the nation's most industrialized, the blueprint acknowledges the need for a reliable electricity supply. The plan recognizes that exclusive reliance on renewable and clean energy technologies may compromise security of supply, posing challenges despite their benefits in decarbonizing the power system. This comprehensive approach signals a turning point for South Africa's energy landscape, fostering innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth. #southafrica #renewablefuture #sustainabledevelopment
