Cities have a critical role in fighting climate change. At the same time, they are also a significant contributor to climate change. Urban activities are a primary source of GHG emissions, accounting for 70% of total global CO2 emissions, with transport and buildings being among the most significant contributors. Cities can be pivotal in reducing global GHG emissions through ambitious urban planning, robust policies, and increasing resilience or ensuring the cities can withstand the impacts of extreme weather events. Not only is the built environment at risk of strain and damage due to the effects of climate change, but it is also one of the largest areas of opportunity to address climate change. All of us in the building industry are in a unique position to tackle climate change, perhaps more so than the average person because we can actively choose to implement greener design and see the direct impact that it has on emissions. This article shares some impressive strides the industry has made, but sustaining and accelerating this progress is essential. https://lnkd.in/gibQzPbH #greendesign #sustainability #innovation
