It's going to take an "all hands on deck" approach to making Britain a #clean #energy superpower. InRange is rolling up our sleeves (and sleeved-PPAs 🤓) to deliver #commercial #solar on retail warehouses, logistics facilities, and other huge roofs that currently only have 5% (!!!) solar utilisation. Saving money on energy and making money on generation is the way forward - and we're here to help lead the #charge ⚡

UK's Energy Strategy: Elevating District Heating The new UK government is prioritizing district heating in its energy policy to reduce carbon emissions and enhance efficiency. Recognized for its effectiveness, especially in urban areas, district heating uses local, low-carbon heat sources, reducing dependence on volatile fossil fuels. Government's Role in Achieving CO2 Neutrality Governments shape energy policies towards CO2 neutrality through regulatory frameworks, financial incentives, and infrastructure investment, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. Lessons from Germany’s Energy Focus Germany's over-reliance on heat pumps, despite ambitious targets, led to increased oil and gas heating installations, underscoring the need for a balanced, non-ideological approach. On Monday, IMF's Alfred Kammer presented a new IMF background note to the Council of the European Union's Economic and Financial Committee explaining how further energy market integration in the EU could lower energy prices, enhance energy security, and boost decarbonization. Consider adding to your #WeekendRead list!
A new IMF note was produced at the request of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU and presented by Alfred Kammer, Director of the IMF European Department, to the EU’s Economic and Financial Committee on January 13, 2025. The note lays out the current fragmentation of EU energy markets and its costs, the benefits of greater energy market integration, and some of the existing impediments to integration. It is not intended to be a comprehensive analysis of the EU energy system. Most of the focus is on the integration of the electricity grid and market, as the energy system will be increasingly electrified and there is a clear need for greater EU level coordination and action here. The note concludes with some policy recommendations to help achieve the EU’s energy and climate objectives. Very relevant report from the International Monetary Fund: A cleaner, more integrated EU electricity system not only reduces the average price and volatility of electricity, it also improves energy security by sustainably reducing the dependence on energy imports.

📣 Published today: Seven Propositions for the new government on UK Electricity Policy. The new UK government has committed to an ambitious transformation of UK energy, including a decarbonised electricity system. The key challenge for the new government is smart policy design to deliver the investment required, whilst minimising political risks. Here, the authors outline seven potential challenges, and offer policy propositions. The briefing explores: 1️⃣ Reforming CfDs for new challenges – avoiding price ‘cannibalisation’ and prioritising flexibility and storage. 2️⃣ Transitioning away from gas power generation – making way for cleaner forms of flexibility. 3️⃣ Efficient consumer access to cheap renewables in regions. 4️⃣ Offshore wind and North Sea cooperation – working on terms for closer integration of electricity trading. 5️⃣ Paying for the transition: energy charge rebalancing and energy poverty. 6️⃣ Communicating the economics of the transition: better metrics – including a ‘National Energy Cost Share’. 7️⃣ Carbon pricing, industrial decarbonisation and trade. INEVITABLE STEPS BACKWARDS IN THE GREEN TRANSITION The governments of Europe must come to terms with the reality of their nations' energy supplies and energy independence. Some more striking and others less so, unpopular choices by governments follow one another without being able to avoid them. In an attempt to increase energy security, the UK administration has declared its intention to build more gas-fired power stations, despite criticism of climate policies in the run-up to the 2024 general election. The need to build gas-fired power stations stems from preventing the threat of energy blackouts as a means to curb exorbitant domestic electricity and gas bills, which have skyrocketed triggering a crisis linked to rising living costs. "The government has pledged to support the construction of new gas-fired power plants to maintain a safe and reliable source of energy for days when weather forecasts do not fuel renewable energy," reads a note. #sustainabletradeandfinance #doganerbek #stf #UK #greenenergy #greentransition (by Doğan Erbek and STF Team) https://lnkd.in/dMm57fU

The reality is that 25 percent of American households are energy-burdened. At the 2024 National Action Network Convention, our Co-Chair, Senator Mary Landrieu, stressed the importance of ensuring America’s clean energy “transition is affordable” or “the bill will come due to the poor and the middle class.” Learn more about the important role natural gas plays in keeping energy bills low on our path to a clean energy future: https://lnkd.in/deTAjieA
