"The urging interest in replacing conventional energy sources with #renewable ones has led to the growing need for energy storage devices ranging from #portableelectronics to grid-scale applications, among which rechargeable batteries like zinc ion batteries (ZIB) are looking very promising. Zinc ion batteries (ZIBs) can be exceptional substitute due to high theoretical capacity of 820 mAh/g, low plating/stripping potential, -0.76 V vs SHE, high abundance, and low cost as a result. Corrosion in ZIB electrolytes leads to the decreased capacity, increased impedance and electrolyte leakage and altogether decreased efficiency. The motivation of our study is to determine the mechanism and kinetic studies of parasitic self corrosion of zinc anode in the ZIB. We are going to present the influence of some of the key parameters on the Zn anode self corrosion in ZIB. Suicai Zhang, Yue Zhang and colleagues introduce graphdiyne (GDY), an sp-hybridized carbon framework, to manipulate the CsPbI3 perovskite crystal lattice. On the one hand, GDY serves as a Lewis base, thereby regulating the perovskite crystallization process and leading to high-quality thin film with low-defect state density. On the other hand, the GDY molecule at grain boundaries relieves the inevitable crystal lattice stress within the CsPbI3 perovskite film caused by the high thermal annealing temperature. As a result, a record-high fill factor of 83.96% and an ultra-high open-circuit voltage of 1.191 V for β-phase CsPbI3 perovskite solar cells are achieved simultaneously. This work provides a proficient methodology to manipulate the crystal lattice of inorganic perovskites toward high-performance photovoltaics. #Matter https://lnkd.in/exJd774Q

I am thrilled to announce my recent interview in the "Alma Mater", a magazine of the University of Latvia. As the Head of Development at the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL), I had the privilege to discuss our groundbreaking work in hydrogen research in Latvia, and specifically at ISSP UL. In the interview, I shed light on the long history of hydrogen research in science, emphasizing that it's not a new field, yet it remains ever so vital. Moreover, I highlighted ISSP UL's active scientific endeavors in exploring technological solutions for hydrogen utilization. 🔬 Key Milestones: - In September 2023, ISSP UL successfully concluded a nearly year-long training program on hydrogen technologies and their applications, which was attended by 12 employees from AS "Latvenergo". - In October, we organized the international "Hydrogen X Future Hackathon" in collaboration with our partners. This event saw ten teams working intensively over three days on future energy-related topics. 📘 About Alma Mater: Alma Mater is a journal of the University of Latvia that covers the latest in science and research, as well as the vibrant life of the university. This interview underscores ISSP UL's commitment to pioneering research in energy and sustainability. Low-current density is one of the bottlenecks of solid-state electrolytes as practical applications require high-current densities for fast charging. When pushing current density limits, there is an increased risk of cell failure due to dendrite formation. 🪫 At the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Prof. NAGA PHANI AETUKURI is pursuing an interesting approach to enable solid-state batteries for high-power applications under realistic low stack-pressure conditions via proprietary interlayer materials and lithiophobic grain boundaries. 🔋 This research project, supported by Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR/CEFIPRA), is a joint collaboration between Sphere Energy and Q-Labs-IISc. 🔬 Excited to share my recent publication in JPCC on "Exploring the Inner- and Outer-Sphere Mechanistic Pathways of ORR on M–N–Cs with Pyrrolic MN4 Motifs"! 📚 In this study, we delved into the intricate mechanisms of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on carbon-hosted pyrrolic MN4 motifs using a novel porphyrin-inspired molecular DFT model. Beyond the conventional inner-sphere analyses, we investigated how different metals influence valence electronic properties, correlating them with both the inner- and outer-sphere electron transfer capabilities. Our research also delved into the dissociation tendencies of hydrogen peroxide on various metals at these sites, shedding light on ORR selectivities and stabilities in relation to a 2e+2e mechanism. We're thrilled to introduce a potential alternative mechanistic pathway, offering insights not only into activity differences but also selectivities and stabilities among different metals at the active site. 🔔 New work on methanation in co-electrolyser (co-SOE) as an alternative method for carbon dioxide capture and production of synthetic fuels. Following our recent study and paper Feasibility study and techno-economic assessment of power-to-gas (P2G) technology based on solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) (https://lnkd.in/d5Pt86yJ) we are back with results of thorough investigation of a new path for CCS with analysis on carbon dioxide capture by direct methanation in co-electrolysis using solid oxide cell (Yevgeniy Naumovich, Jagielski S., Jakub Kupecki, Konrad Motyliński, Katsiaryna Martsinchyk (Razumkova), Anna Niemczyk and Jaroslaw Milewski). Center for Hydrogen Technologies (CTH2), Instytut Energetyki - Państwowy Instytut Badawczy partnered in this analysis with Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering WUT, Warsaw University of Technology, and National Fuel Cell Research Center, UC Irvine. Perovskite solar cells are a type of photovoltaic device that uses perovskite-structured materials as the light-harvesting layer. It is a class of materials with a distinctive crystal structures, which can spread from 3D, 2D, and 1D octahedral structures. These solar cells are typically made by depositing a thin film of perovskite material onto a substrate, forming the active layer of the solar cell. This layer absorbs sunlight and generates electrical charge, which is then collected to produce electricity.
