“The combination of liquid hydrogen and superconducting cables presents a unique opportunity to distribute both hydrogen and bulk electricity in the same infrastructure. In particular, liquid hydrogen around 20 K is ideally suited for cooling the #MgB2 superconductor, resulting in a compact power cable that also leaves sufficient place for the hydrogen flow. Such a hybrid system operating in the MVDC range at 25 kV and 20 kA constitutes one of the main goals of the European project #SCARLET. After a description of the rationale and benefits of the electricity – hydrogen system, various possible applications and a first distribution system are presented. Today, Paul Domjan Founder and Chief Policy & Global Affairs Officer, will represent ENODA at Edison Electric Institute 2024 Conference. Paul will join expert industry leaders from ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission of Texas, at a panel discussion on “Building System Resilience: Lessons from Texas as We Look to the Future." ENODA caught up with Paul to hear his findings from #EEI2024, what to expect from the panel, and how ENODA is playing a role in shaping long term solutions to support the energy transition. "It's been great to see all the different discussion around not just the importance of grid investment, but the importance of what we at ENODA have been advocating for a long time: not just building a bigger grid, but also building a better grid. It really is clear as we look at load growth and the issues that the customers of electricity face, that we need to be deploying all of the potential technologies to increase capacity of the existing poles and wires, at the same time as we build new poles and wires. I'm very proud of the role that ENODA plays in that."

When it comes to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), there are very few companies experienced in bringing them online, making the financials work and most importantly operating the assets effectively. Rodan Energy Solutions Inc. is one of few companies with this expertise in the rapidly expanding and evolving market which is going to be pivotal in the energy transition. For facilities pursuing Carbon Neutral energy operations, BESS additions are an excellent compliment that can balance renewables, EV chargers and power systems while delivering revenue generating component to the end user.

“The impressive aspect of this project is not the sheer size but rather the constructive exchange and collaboration between the involved companies, facilitated by digital tools and cloud-based workspaces,” says Mattias Robert WIMMER, Business Unit Manager of the disconnector department. 💡⚡️ In the past 30 years, since the existence of the substation, ALPHA-ET has supplied over 140 disconnectors to UW Mettlen. In 2023, ALPHA-ET was awarded the contract to supply 21 more disconnectors to the substation. These include the products TFXE, EF, TFP, and CBDE. Part of the order and already the second delivery to UW Mettlen left our warehouse in Grenchen at the end of January. ✅ Contributing to such an important substation for Switzerland’s transmission grid is a great honor for us, as a long-lasting partner of Swissgrid AG and Swiss Manufacturer.
