Let’s unlock the full potential of offshore wind. The offshore wind industry has the potential to grow to 20,000 GW of fixed offshore wind, and 50,000 GW of floating offshore wind capacity globally. However, rising material costs, inflation and competitive seabed tenders have increased LCOE expectations, reversing cost reduction trends. Discover how this is impacting offshore wind developers’ profitability in our newest report. https://mck.co/4d3AaEg #OffshoreWind #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition

Today TGS released its Q1 2024 Offshore Wind Market Overview Report. This report asks whether 2024 is living up to expectations for Offshore Wind? You can read the full release here: https://lnkd.in/gK5_wSHt The United States is seen reclaiming its lost ground and having record amount of new and re-bid offtake capacity secured but our forecast for 2030 installed capacity has gone down. The global industry is lacking early year investment decisions, but imminent announcements are expected. Overall, slight downward adjustment to 2030 forecast is made (it now stands at 261 GW compared to 267 GW in our Q4 2023 report), reflecting some project delays but global political ambition for wind energy development remains strong. 📰 In Industry news: Europe added a record 4.2 GW of offshore wind in 2023: Europe’s offshore wind industry closed 2023 with record deployments after adding 4.2 GW of new capacity, which is 40% higher than in 2022. Whilst Europe is expected to bring live around 5 GW annually over the next three years, it won’t be enough to meet the 2030 goals. After much uncertainty in 2022, plans are now confirmed for eight new offshore projects totalling 9 GW, including the 2.9-GW Hornsea 3 off the UK and the resumed development of the 4.2-GW Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone portfolio.
