The latest report from the IEA’s Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme (IEA-PVPS) sheds light on the remarkable growth in dedicated end-of-life recycling initiatives for solar PV panels. Highlighting a surge from 25 to 177 companies specializing in PV material recycling and equipment provision since 2017, the report underscores significant progress in sustainability within the industry. Key findings reveal insights from leading recyclers across the globe, including detailed life cycle inventory data and emerging technologies like water jet cleaning and pyrolysis. These innovations aim to enhance the efficiency and purity of recycled materials, crucial for their integration back into the PV supply chain. "While challenges remain in achieving high-purity materials suitable for reuse in PV applications, the industry's commitment to advancing recycling technologies is evident," remarked Cara Libby from EPRI. She highlighted ongoing efforts to scale up recycling processes and develop new techniques, ensuring a sustainable future for solar energy. As the PV industry charts a path towards circularity, the report anticipates continued growth in recycling capabilities, bolstered by increased investment and technological advancements. This progress not only supports environmental stewardship but also enhances the industry's resilience and sustainability. Silfab Solar expanded its glass recycling partnership list by signing a new purchase agreement with Solarcycle in an effort to reach its sustainability goals. Under the agreement, Silfab will send its older or underperforming glass modules to Solarcycle for recycling. Solarcycle will then sell the glass back to Silfab, which will use the recycled parts to produce its solar panels. The agreement comes a month after Solarcycle announced its plans to establish a $344 million solar glass manufacturing facility in Cedartown, Georgia, 300 miles from Silfab’s new $150 million solar panel manufacturing plant in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Silfab is the latest customer that will benefit from Solarcycle’s upcoming Georgia facility. Last month, Solarcycle signed an agreement with Qcells. Qcells’ two Georgia facilities in Dalton and Cartersville will supply panels for Solarcycle to reuse. The primary principle of Renewable Energy is based on sustainability and recycling. Which is why the latest project of SOLARCYCLE to build a new facility where crucial solar materials can be reused is vital. The facility would be built in Cedartown, Georgia for $344 million. The facility will manufacture new solar glass from old panels, making it one of the first companies in the US to do so. The company has also signed a deal with Qcells USA Corp. to provide the recovered material for use in new panels. The facility will be able to make five to six gigawatts of solar glass a year and should be fully operational by 2026. Recycling solar panels can contribute to a domestic supply of materials essential to the production of new solar panels while saving precious resources and reducing environmental damage. #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels #Renewables #Sustainability https://lnkd.in/dfhkAiKQ

Is solar panel recycling illusion or a reality that can make an industry built on sustainability....more sustainable? On the heels of @trinasolar announcing the first fully recyclable 645W PV module last month - many are still bemoaning the high costs and effort behind staying circular in operations. If you're SOLARCYCLE -- solar recycling company, you skipped the middle man and put it right into action. They've installed an on-site solar farm made of reused solar panels that will power their industrial solar panel recycling facility. The reused panels come from decommissioned utility-scale solar farms and residential installations across the United States. SOLARCYCLE says the project serves as a model of how to power an industrial facility through renewable energy as the US ramps up domestic manufacturing capacity. It will also help to build a fully closed loop, ultra-low carbon solar industry in America. The 500KW system made from around 1,000 reused panels will provide around 50% of the electricity SOLARCYCLE uses to power their advanced recycling factory in Odessa, Texas.
