Excited for #IPF2024 #IPFConf next month! The U.S. recently achieved a milestone with the completion of the South Fork Wind project by Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) and Ørsted. Last month, New York also awarded contracts to two struggling offshore wind projects, signaling a commitment to bolstering the industry amidst challenging economic conditions.This highlights the importance of offshore wind in creating local jobs, driving supply chain investments, and fostering large-scale clean energy generation. Several states will play a pivotal role in the Biden administration's aim to deploy 30GW of capacity by 2030. Despite challenges like high interest rates and supply chain constraints, positive developments abound. The launch of the country's first two utility-scale offshore wind projects signifies significant progress. Wind turbine manufacturers are reporting improved profits, and contract revisions in New England signal a market shift. However, uncertainties persist regarding industry recovery and costs. Long-term certainty hinges on consistent project construction and leveraging existing infrastructure investments. After Zagreb in March, I’m thrilled to share some insights into some of the SPE’s activities in Romania and Poland. Our association has been at the forefront of driving innovation and collaboration in Eastern Europe, a region that is critical to the European’s energy security. And our latest initiatives are testament to this commitment. 𝑬𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒚 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑬𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆 ⚙️ Eastern Europe is experiencing a dynamic growth in its energy landscape; the region is poised to become a significant player in global energy markets. With the contribution of a new frontier area offshore in the Black Sea, Romania is for example set to be the #1 gas producer in Europe - and net exporter - in 2027. And most resources in the region remain untapped. 𝑻𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑬𝒙𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 🔬 But this growth is embedded in a long-lasting tradition of technical excellence. Petrochemical industry’ birthplaces in Europe were Jaslo (Poland) 1854, and Ploeisti (Romania) 1856. Did you know that Ploiesti actually hosted the first large-scale refining facility in the world? Large Universities like AGH were born quite simultaneously early in the 20th century, and today professors like Szymon Kuczyński are still perpetuating a tradition of educational excellence. 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 💙🌟 Beyond technical achievements, the cultural vibrancy of the East plays a crucial role in the growth of membership in Europe. The region is not just a hub for energy resources but also a melting pot that fuels both conviviality and creativity. I had for example the pleasure to participate to (and win, obviously 😉) the Energy Transition game organized by Aleksander Pyzik in Krakow, a very creative exercise to engage all stakeholders in the room towards balanced energy scenarios. Eastern Europe is known for the warmth and generosity of its people, making every interaction a memorable one; And SPE totally believes in the power of community and having fun. At the recent ESTCON 2024 held at the Sabah International Convention Center, Datuk Bacho Pilong delivered a pivotal keynote speech, emphasizing the integral role of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in Petronas' projects. He highlighted that reducing carbon emissions is not merely a consideration but a fundamental component of Petronas' strategic framework. Throughout the conference, a significant focus was placed on Petronas' robust initiatives aimed at mitigating carbon emissions. These initiatives include: 🔹 Carbon Capture: Implementing advanced technologies to capture and store carbon dioxide before it enters the atmosphere. 🔹 Carbon Storage: Developing solutions for the secure and long-term storage of captured carbon to prevent its release. 🔹 Carbon Transfer: Utilizing existing pipeline infrastructure to efficiently transfer captured carbon, minimizing the need for new infrastructure. 🔹 Digitization: Leveraging digital technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce emissions across Petronas' operations. 🔹 Electrification: Transitioning Petronas' assets to electric power sources to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower carbon footprints. The technical presentations at the conference highlighted how these cutting-edge initiatives are being integrated into Petronas' operations, demonstrating a commitment to a sustainable future and reinforcing the importance of ESG in every aspect of their projects.
