Accelerating renewable energy development. That’s the theme for the next decade. We are still far from the triple-fold growth in renewable energy science says we need to stave off the worse of climate change (1). For example, solar and wind energy growth needs to accelerate to 24% every year (starting now), up from its current 14% annual growth rate (2). Accelerating the energy transition will require we use all tools and collaborations at our disposal - it means doing everything, everywhere, all at once. That’s why I’m excited about Reel’s new partnership with Plastindustrien, which will help ensure that the plastics industry in Denmark creates new renewable energy, via unique electricity contracts called PPAs. Big Milestone for Green Energy! 🌱⚡️ Topsoe, Skovgaard Energy, and Vestas have just inaugurated a groundbreaking 5,000-tonne-per-year green ammonia plant in Ramme, Denmark. This initiative aims to showcase the potential of using hydrogen as a viable energy carrier, pushing the boundaries of renewable energy innovation. 🚀🌍 Located in Ramme, this plant uses a "first-of-its-kind" approach by directly coupling renewable power from 50MW of new solar panels and 12MW of existing wind turbines to the ammonia production process. This method takes into account the natural fluctuations in power production, ensuring a cost-effective and streamlined operation. It's worth noting that the project received significant funding—DKK 81 million ($12 million) from the Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP). 💡🔋 This project is a major step forward in energy transition. According to Kim Hedegaard, CEO Power-to-X at Topsoe, ongoing research, innovation, and practical steps are crucial for developing green solutions for energy-intensive industries and long-distance transportation. Alliance Global Group eyes 100% renewable energy use for Megaworld, Newport World Resorts; taps Meralco’s MPower Andrew Tan’s Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI), through its companies Megaworld and Newport World Resorts operator Travellers International Hotel Group, has tapped MVP-led MPower of Meralco to achieve its goal of sourcing 100% of its power requirements from renewable energy this year. MPower is set to supply a total of 100 megawatts of renewable energy to around 70 property developments of both Megaworld and Newport World Resorts. Leading the ceremonial signing of the landmark deal were Kevin Andrew L. Tan, chief executive officer of AGI (2nd from left) and Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman and CEO of Meralco (2nd from right). Danish company Hyme Energy has launched the world’s first energy storage project using molten hydroxide salt to store green energy. The facility will store excess renewable energy generated during peak periods and release it when production dips. 🌞🔋 Zelestra Expands Solar Footprint with Two New Plants in Spain 📢 Zelestra, the Swedish leader in renewable energy development, is breaking new ground with the construction of two solar plants in Guadalajara and Albacete, Spain. These facilities will add a combined capacity of 83 megawatts peak (MWp), helping to prevent the emission of over 71,500 tons of CO2 annually. 🌍The energy generated by these solar plants will supply Graphic Packaging International, a U.S.-based leader in renewable and recycled packaging materials, through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This partnership will power their facilities in Cantabria and Barcelona, highlighting a shared commitment to sustainable practices. 🏗️The José Cabrera plant in Guadalajara will have a capacity of 50.4 MWp, while Socovos II in Albacete will contribute 33 MWp. Together, they will generate enough electricity to power 37,500 households annually, with operations expected to begin next year. 📈 Leo Moreno, CEO of Zelestra, stated, "We are proud to contribute to Spain's energy future, creating both economic and environmental benefits.
